(B) Consolation Game

Nettleton Tigers (3A Nettleton, MS) 57

Mooreville Troopers (3A Mooreville, MS) 56

Notes: What a game. Gavin Pargo (5-10 ’26 SG Nettleton 19 pts 7-10 ft 7 reb 2 ast 5 st) was battling Tahj McBride (5-10 ’25 SG Nettleton 17 pts 3 3’s 7 reb 2 st) for Player of the Game honors until the winding seconds of the game. David Upchurch (6-1 ’24 G Mooreville 27 pts 6 3’s 7-8 ft 5 reb) controlled the ball and smoothly drained a near half court three with two seconds to go in the game to give Mooreville a 56-55 lead. I’m glad I continued to record the remainder of the game because Coach Grant Gardner drew up a hail-mary play. Braylen Williams (5-11 ’26 G Nettleton 7 pts 3-4 ft 7 reb 1 blk 1 st) inbounded the ball with a full court dime to Anterion Venson (5-10 ’24 G Nettleton 7 pts 1 reb 1 ast 2 st) who was in triple coverage. Venson was able to jump up, get the ball and go back up for the game winning basket.

As for Upchurch, this dude can shoot and has extra long range. Just about every one of his six three’s were three or four feet behind the line.

(B) Championship Game

Choctaw County Chargers (3A Ackerman, MS) 59

East Webster Wolverines ( 3A Maben, MS) 58

Notes: Caleb Cunningham (6-3 ’25 G Choctaw County 22 pts 1 three 8 reb 5 ast 2 st) helped carry the Chargers to the victory. He high flying guard really impressed me with his passing ability. He was making next level passes with ease. Jakarius Weaver (6-4 ’24 F Choctaw County 14 pts 4-5 ft 8 reb 1 ast 1 blk 1 st) was also impressive in the winning effort with his strong play around the paint. Jerkel Ivy (6-1 ’25 G East Webster 21 pts 1 three 2-2 ft 3 reb 1 ast 2 st) is a guard that needs to be seen by next level coaches. He is so shifty and can stop on a dime and pop the mid range jumpers.
