Notes: The NEMBCA All-Star games kicked off with a bang. This game did not have that all-star game feel. It was a really physical, defensive game. It had five lead changes with seven ties. The home team looked as if they had the away team put away then Hannah Finley (5-3 ’24 PG Pontotoc/Holmes CC 25 pts 9-16 FG 4-8 3’s 3-4 ft 2 reb 1 ast 2 st) started raining threes. She got her team back within striking range and Sanyla Smith (5-7 ’24 PG Tupelo 8 pts 2 3’s 4 reb 3 ast 1 blk 5 st) stole the ball and the show. She played fearlessly on the defensive end collecting five steals and then she knocked down the clutch three that became the game winner. She paced the team with three assists also. Smith is an unsigned point that needs to be on a college roster next year. Tyquashia McMillian (5-11 ’24 F West Point/Itawamba CC 5 pts 2-3 FG 1 three 3 reb 2 ast 7 blk 3 st) was a big defensive force with her seven blocks and three steals.
Kamiyha Griffin (5-11 ’24 F South Panola/Northeast CC 19 pts 3-4 ft 11 reb 2 ast 1 blk 1 st) had the best stat line in the game with her double-double and showed that she’s going to be a force in college. Her future teammate, Lauren Harges (5-7 ’24 G Grenada/Northeast CC 4 pts 1-1 three 6 reb 1 ast 1 st), is a player that I like a lot. She is the floor general and will have plenty of assists to Griffin in the future. Alexis Gordon (5-11 ’24 G Pontotoc/Itawamba CC 11 pts 1 three 5 reb 1 ast 2 st) has good handles and gets her shot off whenever she needs to. Harmony Jackson (5-8 ’24 F Lafayette/Jones CC Volleyball 4 pts 10 reb 1 ast 2 blk 1 st) did a good job of crashing the boards. Dukiaha Jones (5-5 ’24 G West Point 5 pts 4 reb 2 ast 1 blk 3 st) is a slept on point that really got my attention. She is a really good passer and runs the point very well. She is another player that should be on a college roster next season.

Notes: This game was the complete opposite of the girls game. It was fast paced and had the regular all-star game feel to it. Cayden Howell (6-3 ’24 G Saltillo/MUW 19 pts 8-15 FG 3 3’s 11 reb 6 ast 1 st) was messing around and almost had a triple-double. He completed the double-double and was just short on assists. Pacey Mathews (6-3 ’24 F South Pontotoc/MUW 24 pts 10-14 FG 2-4 3’s 8 reb 3 ast 1 st) led the team in points. His game reminds me of church league players and that’s not a bad thing. Does he look like a top level basketball player when he’s on the court? Not really but good luck on trying to stop him or slow him down. He just does every little thing right when he plays. He has a great understanding of when and where to be during the game. He’s like the Luka on Northeast MS. Issace Grady (6-4 ’24 G/F New Hope/Pearl River CC 22 pts 9-15 FG 2-4 3’s 7 reb 1 ast 1 blk 1 st) was right behind him in scoring. Mason Godsey (6-5 ’24 F Caledonia/MUW 10 pts 5-9 FG 7 reb 3 ast 1 blk 1 st) and Ayden McDeavitt (6-3 ’24 G/F Tishomingo County/Southeast Baptist 13 pts 6-9 FG 1-2 3’s 5 reb 2 ast) both had solid games in the win. A surprise for me was Beacone Stewart (5-11 ’24 SG Saltillo 2 pts 5 reb 6 ast). I’ve watched him play several times this year and his game didn’t surprise me. It was his hops in the dunk contest before the game. I didn’t realize he could get up like that.
Jeremiah Aaron (6-4 ’24 PF Columbus/Phillips CC (AR) 16 pts 2 3’s 2-2 ft 3 reb 3 st) and Dawson Rice (6-2 ’24 F Pontotoc/Blue Mountain 18 pts 8-11 FG 2 3’s 2 reb 2 st) were the bright spots for the away team. Qei’Darius Booker (5-5 ’24 PG Lafayette) got my attention over the all-star festivities. He played and didn’t record any stats during the game but that’s not why I noticed him. His energy and attitude got my attention. He seemed like he was liked by every player out there and he was a favorite for all involved.

Notes: The atmosphere for this game was rowdy. This was by far the loudest game with fans. They brought the energy and the players responded with the same effort. This game was not a good stat able game. Not a lot of points or not a lot of defensive stats. This game had the unmeasurable stats like diving for loose balls, deflections and hustle plays.
A’rare Foote (5-5 ’24 PG Blue Mountain/Coahoma CC 15 pts 4-6 FG 1-1 3’s 5 reb 4 ast 7 st) helped her team get the win with a game high of 15 points. She used her speed to race down for layups and swiped seven steals on the defensive end. Alaina Hubbard (5-6 ’24 G Belmont 10 pts 3-6 3’s 5 reb 1 ast 1 st) used her sharp shooting to chip in three 3’s. Brooklyn Hodum (5-8 ’24 G New Site/Blue Mountain 5 pts 1 three 2-2 ft 1 reb 1 st) swept all of the pregame shooting competitions.
A fun match up to watch was between A’Rare and Da’Nasia Logan (5-3 ’24 G East Webster 9 pts 1 three 2 reb 1 ast 2 st). These are two of the fastest guards in north MS and they put on a show with lightning speed.
These teams have a lot of talent and size that are unsigned. I think a lot of these girls are getting overlooked.

Notes: This game was a very competitive game of runs. There was plenty of trash talking mixed in with several one on one battles. These guys really got after each other in this one. The home team got down and it appeared to be over but Jahiem Blanchard (’24 G Okolona 16 pts 6-12 FG 4-7 3’s 1 ast 1 st) popped a couple threys that didn’t even touch cotton to get them back in it. The home team battled back and slowly took the lead paced by a Jarvaris Head (6-3 ’24 C Okolona 8 pts 4-6 FG 4 reb) dunk. The away team started their comeback with a Jabari Wright (5-9 ’24 G Byers 22 pts 7-14 FG 2-5 3’s 6-8 ft 4 reb 3 ast 4 st) jumper. Quntavier Jones (6-3 ’24 G Potts Camp 6-3 G 13 pts 1-1 ft 9 reb 2 ast 2 blk) cleared a defensive board and took it coast to coast for the reverse layup. Javari Hall (6-6 ’24 F Blue Mountain 10 pts 5-9 FG 6 reb 2 blk 2 st) and Dallas Pounds (6-5 ’24 F New Site 6 pts 5 reb 1 ast) both scored baskets in the paint to help tie the game. The home team had the opportunity to get a possible game winner off but it was blocked by Alec Nunley (6-3 ’24 G/F Booneville 14 pts 6-10 FG 1 three 3 reb 3 ast 1 blk). They battled in overtime before a Jabari Wright free throw won it for the away team.
For the winners, Wright was the go to guy and he is a bucket, flat out bucket. He scores on all levels of the court and the home team kept throwing multiple defenders at him to stop him. There is absolutely no way he’s not on a college roster next year? Jones is a player that is way better than what I thought he was. He is a gamer that has hops and really high level handles. Nunley just did Alec Nunley type of stuff, ie. state championship game. He just makes winning plays with hustle and heart. Hall and Pounds are both wings that can stretch the floor with size. Hall won the free throw comp going ten of ten from the stripe. All of these guys right here should easily be on college rosters next year.
For the home team, Fred Randle (5-10 ’24 G Okolona 17 pts 1 three 2-2 ft 7 reb 3 ast 3 st) had an impressive game with his speed and quickness. Nehemiah Flemmings (5-11 ’24 G Houlka 11 pts 2-4 3’s 10 reb 5 ast 1 blk 2 st) had a double-double and was working on that triple. Jonathan Armstrong (6-2 ’24 G Calhoun City 13 pts 1 three 7 reb 3 ast 1 st) is a competitor. He plays really hard and has a nice college level ready body. Cameron Smith (5-9 ’24 G West Lowndes 8 pts 2 3’s 1 reb) knocked down some big shots late in the game. Dylon Tollison (6-2 ’24 SG East Webster 5 pts 1 three 2 reb 1 st) was probably the best pure shooter I saw the entire weekend.
Here is something that is bothering me really bad. These kids are getting severely overlooked because they play small A ball. There were seven no brainier college players in this game and not one single player in this game has signed at all. I know a couple may have offers and not have signed yet. There were 14 signed players in the 4A-7A game and if I were doing a top ten list with just these guys only 3 would be in my top ten from the 4A-7A game. I’m not saying the 4A-7A guys are not good enough but these small A ball guys are being passed over for no reason.
To these outgoing seniors, I’m sorry if I haven’t done a good enough job of getting you guys out there.
