Magnolia Hoops Game of the Night

Tuesday November 5, 2024
From Tremont High School
Tremont, MS
Stats are taken by me and they are unofficial.
(G) Tremont Lady Eagles 1-0 (1A Tremont, MS) 45
Blue Mountain Lady Cougars 0-1 (1A Blue Mountain, MS) 37
Notes: Wow it sure is good to be back in the gyms with season starting. Tremont used a strong second quarter defense to get a cushion and was able to hold Blue Mountain off. They allowed 0 field goals in the second quarter.
Tremont Lady Eagles got a good showing from the tandem of Paige Gillespie (5-2 ’25 G Tremont) and Sarah Sims (5-6 ’26 G/F Tremont). Sims barely edged Gillespie out for Player of the Game honors. Gillespie really got my attention as a true point. She handled the ball really well and is a very good passer. She plays all over the court and plays really hard creating openings for her teammates. She didn’t start scoring until it was needed later in the game.
Blue Mountain was led by returning starter Beiga Foote (5-4 ’26 G Blue Mountain). Foote posted a big double-double as she continued her solid play from last season. She crashed the boards hard from her guard spot and showed her range with some long balls.

Notes: Blue Mountain has a scrappy team and they battled to get the win. Jontavious Scruggs (5-8 ’29 G Blue Mountain) was playing his first ever varsity game and took home Player of the Game honors. Jordan Hall (6-1 G’26 Blue Mountain) started the game out with his lights-out shooting. Chance Venson (5-9 ’26 G/F Blue Mountain) provided hustle and muscle off the bench while Kamarian Scruggs (5-10 ’27 F Blue Mountain) fought hard for the boards. Keshaun Strickland (5-6 ’27 PG Blue Mountain) kept the team running with his guard play.
Tremont had two guys that impressed me in Caleb Neal (5-8 ’26 G Tremont) and Carson Robinson (’27 G Blue Mountian). Both of these guys rebounded well with textbook blocking out.
