Lady Lion Classic Recap 11-16-2024

Magnolia Hoops Event of the Day

Biggersville Lady Lion Classic

Saturday November 16, 2024

From Biggersville HS

Corinth, MS

Stats are taken by me and they are unofficial.

(G) Kossuth Lady Aggies 3-2 (3A Kossuth, MS) 60

Ashland Lady Blue Devils 0-4 (1A Ashland MS) 44

Notes: Kossuth got the early morning win behind the strong play of Alana Lewis (5-5 ’27 G Kossuth). Lewis is a great talent that just keeps getting better. She scores on all levels and really needs to be in the state rankings.

Kossuth looked good in the win but Ashland may have looked better in the loss. The short handed Lady Blue Devils didn’t win on the score board but should’ve walked away feeling like a win. They only had five players dressed out and made the best of it. They could’ve easily given up but they didn’t. Morgan Crutcher (5-6 ’25 G Ashland) is a really good guard while HarveyAnna Holloway (5-10 ’27 C Ashland) is a very solid looking prospect down low. Coach Jada Rich made a “No she didn’t” moment during the game to earn massive respect from me and spectators on the sidelines. At one point in the game, she had a player not giving her 100 percent so she called for a sub. She made the sub even without a player to put in going four on five for several minutes. This got the attention of said player and she came back in and gave much better effort the rest of the game.

(G) Biggersville Lady Lions 3-0 (1A Corinth, MS) 69

Ripley Lady Tigers 0-3 (4A Ripley, MS) 40

Notes: Biggersville didn’t score a basket outside of the paint until late in the 4th quarter that I can remember. This was in big part to the paint beast Jaylee Stafford (5-9 ’26 F Biggersville). The more I watch her and see how hard she plays down low the more I realize how underrated she is. She is a monster on the boards. This Biggersville team is loaded and checks all the boxes. They have size with Stafford and Giana Wicks (6-0 ’27 F Biggersillve). They have high level guard play in K’yana Hill (5-6 ’25 G Biggersillve) and Sadiya Hill (5-4 ’27 G Biggersville). Hailye Gaines (5-9 ’27 G Biggersville) brings energy and athleticism off of the bench. The only thing they were missing was outside shooting but why do you need that when you can dominate the paint. They do have shooters in Presley Rhodes (5-2 ’25 G Biggersville) and Lainey Little (5-3 ’28 G Biggersville). Little was out with an injury. This team is very deep and still young. They will challenge for the 1A title if they are not the favorites.

Jayda Perry (5-7 ’26 SG Ripley) and Saniyah Rogers (5-5 ’25 F Ripley) paced Ripley in the loss.

Mantachie Lady Mustangs 0-6 (3A Mantachie, MS) 19

Notes: Akiah Prince (6-1 ’25 F/C Simmons) messed around and almost had a triple-double. She was 1 steal away from reaching the honor to help her team in the win. She was dominant in the victory. I can easily see this Simmons team playing for the 1A title this season.

Louisville Lady Wildcats 2-2 (4A Louisville, MS) 33

Notes: Ingomar had to change the game plan up after a big loss of starting point Issie Riddle (5-5 ’26 PG Ingomar) due to a leg injury early in the game. Macie Phifer (5-11 ’25 G Ingomar) led the way for the Lady Falcons. Peyton Wray (5-8 ’29 G Ingomar) stepped up big with Cadie Jo Byrd (5-10 ’25 G Ingomar) and Bella Phifer (5-10 ’26 F Ingomar) battling foul trouble.

Makayla Sam (5-8 ’27 G Louisville) is a very athletic guard for Louisville. She has handles and can score with ease.

Callaway Lady Chargers 4-1 (6A Jackson, MS) 51

Notes: Bella Nunley (5-8 ’28 G Booneville) stepped up big by hitting 2 free-throws with 2.4 seconds to help get the victory. Ava Kate Smith (5-8 ’25 G Booneville) had a huge game showing why she is one of the most underrated points in the state. Kellan Johnson (5-8 ’27 G Booneville) hit some clutch shots on her way to 17 points. Booneville was also without injured senior Sa’niyah Cook (6-3 ’25 C Booneville).

Jahanna Wilson (5-4 ’25 PG Callaway) got game. She is a great passer and gets buckets all over the court.

(G) Belmont Lady Cardinals 3-0 (3A Belmont, MS) 75

Madison Central Lady Jaguars 3-2 (7A Madison, MS) 72

Notes: These two teams put on a show. Carlie Brock (5-3 ’25 PG Belmont) only scored two points in the first half due to riding the pine with foul trouble. She dropped a smooth 20 in the second half to help get the win. It should come as no surprise but Belmont and Booneville are the favorites in 3A.

Karley Robinson (5-6 ’28 PG Madison Central) showed why she is one of the best freshmen in the state. She dropped 27 and never backed down from a challenge in this game.

Lewisburg Lady Patriots 0-5 (7A Olive Branch, MS) 25

Notes: The senior collective of Gracie Rhodes (5-5 ’25 G Alcorn Central), Carlie Barnes (5-9 ’25 G Alcorn Central), Emma Barnett (5-10 ’25 C Alcorn Central) and Anslee Kemp 5-5 ’25 PG Alcorn Central) pushed Alcorn Central to the win. Kemp is a true point that would be fun to play with. She is a pass first guard that tries to get teammates in the right spots to score. She also appears to have fun out there playing. She may not be the fastest or biggest but she just gets the job done.
