2024 Lighthouse Classic

Day 1 Recap

The stats are provided by Blake Long and his Northeast MS CC crew. They are the best in the business at keeping stats and can’t be thanked enough for the great job that they do.

The Lighthouse Classic

Friday November 29, 2024

From Corinth HS

Corinth, MS

(B) Kossuth Aggies 1-2 (3A Kossuth, MS) 56

Hickory Flat Rebels 0-8 (1A Hickory Flat, MS) 39

Notes: This Kossuth team is really young. If these guys keep developing and stay together they will be a force to deal with in a couple years. 39 of their 56 points were scored by the younger Aggies.

(B) Elkmont Red Devils 3-5 (3A Elkmont, AL) 65

Biggersville Lions 1-1 (1A Corinth, MS) 62

Notes: I watched Michael Stanford (6-6 ’26 F Elkmont) play over the summer in AAU and I loved his game. The transfer from Madison Academy is for next level coaches to see. Stanford scored 14 off the bench and earned Player of the Game honors.

Is Biggersville rebuilding or reloading? They have a couple returning starters but also start a couple junior high guys. I would like to give them several more games to get adjusted so we can see what they have. Zialis Blackmon (6-5 ’26 G/F Biggersville) scored 22 points off the bench.

Lighthouse Classic Challenge Semifinal Game

(B) Moravian Prep Lions 1-0 (Hudson, NC) 96

Hamilton Heights Christian Academy Hawks 5-1 (Chattanooga, TN) 62

Notes: The big draw in this game was the Ellis brothers and don’t get me wrong they showed why. Eli Ellis (6-1 ’25 PG Moravian Prep) scored 36 points while Isaac Ellis (6-1 ’26 PG Moravian Prep) had 9 rebounds and 6 assists. Kohl Rosario (6-5 ’26 G Moravian Prep) stole the show for me though. This guy is a beast and will be a future pro under Coach Ellis. His skill level will get refined to match his hustle, athleticism and frame to make him a big target for HM programs.

(B) Madison-Ridgeland Academy Patriots 5-2 (MAIS 6A Madison, MS) 59

Clay-Chalkville Cougars 7-4 (6A Pinson, AL) 46

Notes: Just about all of the younger kids are prospects in my mind. I’ve seen them fall off over the years or not reach potential so that’s why I define them as that. Erick Dampier Jr. (6-10 ’28 C MRA) is not a prospect. He breaks the mold for kids his age. He plays like a proven veteran and is only a freshman that doesn’t even have a drivers license yet. He will easily follow in his dad’s footsteps making it to the pros and will most likely surpass his accolades. The sky is the limit for Erick. The question is not will he be a pro but how great of a pro he will be.

(B) Hoover Buccaneers 7-0 (7A Hoover, AL) 78

Norcross Blue Devils 3-1 (AAAAAA Norcross, GA) 58

Notes: When Hoover puts in Dewayne Brown (6-9 ’25 C Hoover) at the 4 and Jackson Sheffield (6-9 ’26 PF Hoover) at the 5 they are hard to stop for most high school teams. Brown is so big and strong but still moves so fluid at the same time. Hoover is loaded and they deserve every bit of their national ranking.

I really love Jaron Saulsberry (6-6 ’26 G Norcross). He is a very good all around guard that should be at the top of a lot of college coaches wish list.

Notes: It was really nice seeing Ben Mastin move up the high school coaching ranks over the last several years. The young mastermind has moved his way up from small school ball to 6A and he will continue to climb the ranks.
