Magnolia Hoops Event of the Day
Doc Vandiver Classic

Saturday December 7, 2024
From Baldwyn HS
Baldwyn, MS
(B) Houston Hilltoppers 5-5 (#27 4A Houston, MS) 63
Biggersville Lions 2-2 (1A Corinth, MS) 56
Notes: Jayden Knox (6-2 ’26 PG Houston) is a smooth guard that dropped 16 in this game to earn Player of the Game honors. Kase Brooks (6-3 ’27 G/F Houston) is a prospect that showed range with his three 3’s. Nathan Ford (6-5 ’25 SG Houston) really got my attention. The 6-5ish range Hilltopper has a college ready body. He was playing in the paint during this game but Coach Neal said he can also play guard when needed. He has very soft hands around the paint to go with his wide frame. He’s not ready now but keep an eye on Jaqualen Moore (6-3 ’29 F Houston). The junior high prospect has very high potential and will be a force down the road for Houston. He has a very long frame and to go with his athleticism.
Brooks Seago (6-2 ’26 G Biggesville) scored 22 in the losing effort for Biggersville.

Notes: Jaxon Vinson (6-3 ’26 G Red Bay) scored 14 points for Red Bay to earn the Player of the Game. Khalil Luster (6-8 ’28 G/F Red Bay) looked really good for Red Bay. His game is progressing really well. He is starting to show poise and patience on the court. I can’t wait to see where he ends up in the long run with his game. The sky is the limit for the big wing.

Shannon Lady Red Raiders 5-5 (#20 4A Shannon, MS) 32
Notes: Welcome back home to Baldwyn graduate and Hardin County head coach Brandon Kirk. Coach Kirk was able to bring his girls to his home gym and get the win. He has a couple really good shooters in Lillie Beth Deberry (’26 G Hardin County) and Hannah Miller (’26 SG Hardin County). He has a really good combo of young post players in Shealeigh Greene (5-11 ’27 F/C Hardin County) and Averly Warren (’28 C Hardin County). Warren doesn’t have a height listed but she is a good two or three inches taller than Greene so I’d say she’s pushing 6-2 or 6-3 range. She has the potential to be a really good college prospect. Coach Kirk has a team that has a chance to be a really good contender over the next few years.

(B) West Bolivar Eagles 3-2 (1A Rosedale, MS) 41
Pine Grove Panthers 8-3 (#4 1A Ripley, MS) 37
Notes: This West Bolivar team car really fire it up and shoot the ball if they need to but they still have that stingy Rosedale defense that they are known for. They have good length and speed to keep that zone defense strong. I had this game as being the game of the day with the winner winning 41-39 in overtime. Well, I missed the overtime part and Pine Grove let me down with that extra 2. It was a great game just as I expected.
Brittan Fryar (5-8 ’25 PG Pine Grove) paced Pine Grove with 16 points.

Hamilton Lions 4-3 (#11 2A Hamilton, MS) 47
Notes: DeAnthony Slaughter (5-10 ’26 PG North Pontotoc) and Brayden Brown (6-0 ’25 North Pontotoc) led North Pontotoc to the win.
Chris “Scooter” Willis (6-1 ’27 G Hamilton) may have had the worst shooting game I’ve ever seen him have but he still used his guard skills getting his teammates involved with college level passes. He also crashed the boards hard and played really good on the defensive end.

Baldwyn Bearcats 1-1 (1A Baldwyn, MS) 57
Notes: Senatobia can shoot the cover of the ball. Seniors Kenzarius Burton (5-9 ’25 G Senatobia) and Jay Bonner (5-9 ’25 G Senatobia) both dropped 20 pieces for Coach Coleman and his high powered offensive team.
Baldwyn was still playing without some of the football guys just 24 hours after winning the 1A football state championship. This team is very good with plenty of offensive weapons waiting to be unleashed. I would like to see them in about a month when they get all of their guys back and get rolling but the Bearcats may be able to bring another championship back to Baldwyn this year.
