From Pontotoc HS

Pontotoc, MS

(B) Coahoma County Red Panthers 12-2 #25 (3A #2 Clarksdale, MS) 55

New Hope Trojans 6-6 #90 (5A #10 Columbus, MS) 43

Notes: New Hope jumped out to an early lead before Coahoma County finally woke up late in the third quarter. The Red Panthers got back into the game slowly and finally grabbed the lead with two minutes left in the third frame. The 3A contender controlled the game the rest of the way. Caleb Hearn (6-5 ’26 F Coahoma County) collected the Game MVP award with his strong play down low. Hearn used his big frame to power in 16 points. Hearn is one that needs to be seen by college coaches and should be on the radar of every JUCO Coach..

Coffeeville Pirates 7-5 #58 (1A #2 Coffeeville, MS) 45

Notes: Whew, this game right here. Where do I start? This game was taken over by Brayden Tillery (5-10 ’26 F Ingomar) in the fourth quarter. He scored eight of his 23 points in the shortened frame. He earned the Game MVP honor with his heads up play down low. Olen Faulkner (5-10 ’25 G Ingomar) was being mentioned as Game MVP with his defensive performance before Tillery went off to help win the game. Faulkner was able to hold Stanford Spearman (6-2 ’25 G Coffeeville) to 28 points in this contest. I know the 28 sounds like a lack of defense but Spearman is the best scorer in Mississippi. He can drop 40-60 points any given night with ease. Spearman scores on all levels and can get any shot that he wants. I also watched him play aau over the summer and he had plenty of scorers on the team with him so he changed his game and played a point role. I know he’s a small A player but college coaches need to get eyes on him and make him a priority.

Heritage Academy Patriots 9-4 #36 (MAIS 5A #3 Columbus, MS) 37

Notes: Jamarion Fleming (6-10 ’25 F/C Canton) paced a short-handed Canton team to a big win. Baby J dominated the paint. One of the more impressive parts of his game today was his passing from the low post. He was able to find his teammates for open shots the whole game.

Heritage Academy is a very solid team that will make a long run in the playoffs.

(B) Huffman Vikings 12-3 #14 (6A #2 Birmingham, AL) 49 OT

Starkville Yellowjackets 9-3 #5 (7A #2 Starkville, MS) 46

Notes: Peyton “Peanut” Wiggins (6-2 ’25 PG Huffman) scored eight of his 21 points in the fourth quarter and overtime. When the game was on the line he stepped up and got buckets. He’s a relentless guard that can score on all levels.

This Starkville team looks the part. They have really good guard play. They have bigs that can play and they have a Coach that relies on defense to win. I wouldn’t count them out in March. I have a feeling that they will be a serious contender for the gold ball.

(B) Ridgeland Titans 12-2 #7 (6A #2 Ridgeland, MS) 60

Booneville Blue Devils 12-3 #3 (3A #1 Booneville, MS) 57

Notes: This was a great game that did not disappoint me. Booneville was the favorite going into the game but Ridgeland really showed me something. The guard play from Ridgeland was really good but Marquise Williams (6-4 ’26 G/F Ridgeland) was the difference maker. He scored 27 points against the much taller Booneville wings and post players. Another key note for me in this game was that Ridgeland won this game with just 5 players. They did have players on the bench but from my notes and the official book they never subbed a player in the game. That is very big for their guys playing the whole game and still coming away with the win. We already knew this but Ridgeland will be a serious contender for the 6A title this year.

(B) Olive Branch Conquistadors 10-3 #14 (6A #3 Olive Branch, MS) 54

Madison-Ridgeland Academy Patriots 7-4 #15 (MAIS 6A #5 Madison, MS) 40

Notes: Can I define OB in one word? I’d start with tough and then relentless. This team is very good. I usually am not a fan of the OB system or how they play but this team is different. It is not their most talented but it may be one of the best they have had. Coach Rombaugh has a very deep team and you can’t single out a player to stop. Reece Garrison (6-2 ’25 G Olive Branch) was in the running for Game MVP but the defensive effort of Tommy Callicut (6-4 ’27 F Olive Branch) earned him the honor. He helped hold the number one freshman in the nation to seven points. That was a huge performance from Callicut.

(B) Hoover Buccaneers 12-0 #2 (7A #2 Hoover, AL) 63

Jackson Academy Raiders 8-2 #8 (MAIS 6A #2 Jackson, MS) 51

Notes: DeWayne Brown (6-9 ’25 F Hoover) continued his dominance over every team they play. He will be a force for Tennessee over the next few years. Salim London (6-5 ’25 G Hoover) really got my attention with his passing ability. He finished with five assists and it could’ve easily been ten. Hoover came into the game as the #9 ranked team in the nation and they deserve every bit of the ranking.

JA has two losses this season, one to the #9 ranked team in Hoover and the other is to the #22 ranked team in the nation, Huntsville. That is some serious competition. Marcus Goodloe (5-10 ’26 SG JA) and Caleb Gaitor (5-10 ’25 PG JA) gave it everything they had in this game. They earned the respect of fans and spectators with their David versus Goliath battle.

West Union Eagles 10-3 #49 (1A #1 Myrtle, MS) 57

Notes: Landon Souter (5-10 ’27 PG Pontotoc) earned Game MVP honors with his 19 point performance leading the home team to the win. Pontotoc has an athletic group of young prospects to keep an eye on.

West Union was paced by Carson Conlee (5-10 ’27 G West Union) and his 29 points. Jon Grey Morrisson (6-6 ’26 F West Union) looked really good running the offense from the high post. He was filling all of the stat categories with his solid night.
