The 33rd Annual Hot Bed Classic Recap 1-25-25

Magnolia Hoops Event of the Day

The 33rd Annual Hot Bed Classic

Saturday January 25, 2025

From Historic Memorial Gym

New Albany, MS

Thanks to the best in the game, Blake Long and his crew, for the great job they do on the stats.

(B) East Union Urchins 17-4 #80 (2A #5 Blue Springs, MS) 89

Potts Camp Cardinals 2-19 #298 (1A #39 Potts Camp, MS) 61

Notes: Chase Johnson (6-0 ’26 G/F East Union) and Tristan Baldwyn (6-0 ’27 G/F East Union) both scored 23 points to overcome the 28 points from Jeremiah Nelson (5-11 ’27 G Potts Camp). Jacob Lesure (6-0 ’25 F Potts Camp) had a solid double-double in the loss. Tyler McNeil (’29 F Potts Camp) is a very nice looking prospect for the Cardinals. They didn’t have a height listed but his long, lanky frame makes him appear to be in the 6-4ish range.

(B) West Union Eagles 21-5 #66 (1A #1 Myrtle, MS) 60

Hamilton Lions 9-10 #187 (2A #20 Hamilton, MS) 50

Notes: Carson Conlee (5-10 ’27 G West Union) dropped 22 points to get the MVP while Jon Grey Morrisson (6-6 ’26 F West Union) snagged a double-double in the win. West Union did a great job of slowing Hamilton star Chris “Scooter” Willis (6-1 ’27 G Hamilton) down with double and triple teams. Hamilton did a good job in the match-up with the 1A contender. The Lions have improved a good bit over the season and have the ability to be the upset specialist in the 2A playoffs.

Notes: This was a really good and close game. Hall was able to get the victory with a well rounded team performance. NW Rankin is a team to keep an eye on down the road. They are loaded with sophomores and will be a serious contender over the next few seasons.

(B) Bartlett Panthers 15-7 #2 (4A #1 Bartlett, TN) 76

Starkville Yellowjackets 19-7 #4 (7A #2 Starkville, MS) 36

Notes: Starkville, keep your head up. You will not see an opponent in Mississippi of this caliber again this year. They would beat any team we have in the same nature. Bartlett continues to be loaded with D1 prospects and will continue to be a national level team for years to come. They would’ve also beaten any team at the Hot Bed the same way.

(B) Thayer Bobcats 9-2 #54 (Division 3 # Thayer, MO) 57

Ingomar Falcons 20-8 #72 (2A #4 New Albany, MS) 43

Notes: Last Saturday Darryl Robertson went and found a team from Alabama that out “Ingomared” Ingomar girls. David Goode had to go all the way to Missouri to find a boys team that could out “Ingomar” Ingomar. This game was a lot of fun to watch and you basically had two Ingomar teams playing on the same court. The one advantage that Thayer had was Devin Harrington (6-5 ’25 G/F Thayer). Harrington should be a D1 prospect. He had a double-double leading the Bobcats to the win.

(B) New Albany Bulldogs 16-6 #68 (4A #12 New Albany, MS) 60

Clearwater Tornadoes 11-10 #260 (5A #33 Clearwater, FL) 53

Notes: 735 miles. This match-up has been coming for years and this one here has been much anticipated. Welcome home to Coach Kris Foote of Clearwater. Coach Foote finally got the opportunity to come play his alma mater and play in the prestigious Hot Bed Classic. The 2002 graduate was also able to bring his son to play on the same court that he once played on. Kris Foote Jr. (6-5 ’26 G/F Clearwater) made the best of his time and is taking home some extra luggage and hardware as he was the Hot Bed MVP for Clearwater. The Foote family is well known from New Albany and Blue Mountain area and they showed up in full support. Coach Foote had a former coach, teammates and classmates show up and show him support in his homecoming.

This game was also very intense. It was physical and it was fun to watch. Amari Hubbard (6-1 ’25 G New Albany) bagged a double-double in the win while Isaac Gilbert (6-7 ’25 F/C New Albany) had a near perfect night earning MVP honors. The more I watch Gilbert play, the more I realize how underrated he is. I haven’t seen all of the senior bigs in the state but from the one’s I’ve seen he’s second best behind Fleming. New Albany was also able to get the win without hitting a three pointer.
