Quarterfinal Round
Projected winner in bold. (Record) #=MaxPreps class rank
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 19
Itawamba Community College (North)
7:00 Region 1 #1 East Union (22-7) #8 travels 40 miles vs Region 3 #2 North Side (19-11) #5 travels 159 miles
Before we get too far in this, let’s give Coach Chase Brown his flowers. He should easily be the Northeast MS area Coach of the Year. He has taken both his girls and boys to back-to-back quarterfinal appearances. I know there are several coaches that complete this same accomplishment but he is doing it at a baseball/softball school. East Union easily dominates the ball fields every year and this is uncharted territory for them to be doing this on the court. Congrats Coach on the great job. It is not going unnoticed. His girls should be making the trip to Jackson. However, the guys season may be coming to an end. North Side is very good. I like East Union playing close to home and it should be like a home environment for them but I don’t think it will be enough to overcome how good North Side really is. I’ll roll with Shelby.
8:30 Region 3 #1 Leflore County (21-7) #3 travels 152 miles vs Region 2 #1 Palmer (17-8) #6 travels 119 miles
Both of these schools will be making the trip across the state with a trip to Jackson on the line. Leflore is looking really good right now. I’m taking them in a close game.
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 21
Raymond High School (South)
7:00 Region 7 #1 Bogue Chitto (24-3) #4 travels 63 miles vs Region 6 #1 Pelahatchie (27-2) #1 travels 41 miles
Bogue Chitto fell just short last year and I don’t see them doing it this year. I’m taking the upset over 2A MaxPreps #1 Pelahatchie in a close game.
8:30 Region 5 #1 Bay Springs (25-5) #2 travels 80 miles vs Region 8 #1 Richton (25-7) #7 travels 127 miles
I think Bay Springs gets the comfortable win punching their ticket to the Big House.
