Baldwyn played for the state championship 6 out of 10 years from 2010 to 2020 which is very impressive. They find themselves back in the championship game after escaping Shaw in the semifinals. Coffeeville was able to roll into the big game. These are two of the “Big 4” in 1A and each one knocked “Big 4” teams off making it to Jackson. Coffeeville beat Biggersville while Baldwyn knocked off the 1A favorite in West Union. Baldwyn has the deepest and possibly the best team in 1A. Coffeeville has the most explosive scorer in 1A or for the state as far as that’s concerned. I can see this going two ways. If Baldwyn keeps the score below 50 they get the win. If Coffeeville can get the score above 50 they win. So which way do I see it going? I think this game may be more than basketball. Coffeeville is playing for Quin Smith. Quin was a great college level prospect that tragically passed away over the summer as a result of being struck by a vehicle while on an AAU trip. Coffeeville would’ve been the hands down favorite this season if they had Quin on the court. He was a stud athlete and a great person off the court. The Pirates are playing for his honor and are trying to win it for Uno. I can see them ending the season as #1 in 1A for #1. I do see it being a very close and exciting game with Coffeeville getting the victory.
