Final Four Semifinal Round 3A & 6A

State Tournament Boys Semifinal 3A and 6A Session

Notes

3A

Humphreys County

Stanley Williams 5-9 PG Sr: 19 pts, 2 3’s, 7-7 ft, 4 reb, 3 ast. Smart guard with good vision, great passer. Good shooting stroke.

Forest

Forest: Inside defense was amazing on Howard. All out effort from all spots on the court. Very patient on offense.

Velma Jackson

Brandon Weatherspoon 6-3 G/F Fr: 12 pts, 4-5 fg, 4 3’s. The younger brother of the Weatherspoon clan played  big for the Falcons. Great things to come for him from a big time basketball family.

Kemper County

Matt Dale 6-6 F/C Jr: 14 pts, 7-11 fg, 13 reb. Very efficient game for the big man.

Gus Nave 6-0 PG Jr: 6 pts, 4-4 ft, 5 reb, 10 ast, 2 st. Play maker. Highest assist total in the tournament so far. Ball handling and smarts prevailed at the end.

Otis Cross Jr 6-0 G/F Sr: 10 pts, 4-7 fg, 2 3’s, 5 reb. Defense! Efficient game as well. He helped hold Nikolas Weatherspoon to 6 points only giving up 11 shots to him. That is a big time feat given how good Weatherspoon is.

Kemper County Coach John Allen Darnell: One of the most impressive coaching performances I’ve seen this season. Coach Carlyle is in the top 5 coaches in the state and Coach Darnell won an amazing chess match with him.

6A

Columbus

Columbus: 8 of 11 players that entered the game were above 6-4 and fast and strong.

Southaven

Taze Moore 6-5 G Sr: 15 pts, 2 3’s, 5-6 ft, 6 reb, 3 blk. Still WOW impressive. Super fast and can really get up.

Starkville

Tyson Carter 6-4 G Sr: 24 pts, 6-8 ft, 4 reb, 3 ast. Great mid range game going tonight.

Jesse Little 6-9 F/C Jr: 19 pts, 8-8 fg, 3-3 ft, 9 reb, 2 blk. I wish I could have a night where every ball I throw up goes in the basket. Did not miss a shot, free throw or field goal. Played big on the inside tonight.

Tupelo

Tupelo: A great run comes to an end for a great Tupelo team. Not because of lack of effort.
