Independence Jamboree

Notes from the Independence Jamboree

I would like to thank Coach Ormon and Independence for the hospitality at the Jamboree Saturday

N’Kosi King 6-0 Sr PG: smart; solid ball player; can create and get his shot off anywhere on the court; has good range; great passer

M.S. Palmer

William Tribble 6-3 So: stretch 4; has a knack for finding all the rebounds and loose balls; hit 3’s consistently and knew his range

Potts Camp

Reggie Turnage 6-5 Sr G/F: RAW, raw, raw; long reach; smooth; good handles; he was hitting 15 footers as well as knocking down a few 3’s; gets up well; had 2 dunks in traffic; shot blocking machine

West Tallahatchie

West Tallahatchie: took a while to get going but they found that West Tally style of play; hustle and scrappy. Going to be a team to deal with in 2A

Marquis Orange 6-2 Sr G: had a bad shooting day but still showed why he is one of the best players in 2A. Spread the ball very well and got everybody involved

Holly Springs

Holly Spings: Wow 3A better look out because Holly High is back; solid team where every player knew their roles and was happy to contribute in each aspect of the game; deep bench and plenty of size to be a force. At least 2 players with D1 talent

DaQuan Smith 6-1 So G: How is this guy not on any list of top players in the state? He deserves to be mentioned with Woodard, Barber and Marshall! He reminded me a lot of Monta Ellis (didn’t say he was as good as Monta yet); played within the flow of the game; not afraid to dunk over people; silky smooth shot

D’Andre Finley 6-0 Sr G: showed Sr leadership; he was the floor general; took ball handling responsibilities and didn’t need to score

Keota Taylor 6-6 Sr C: rebounding machine; again another player that knew his role and played within the system

Kendrick Fountain 6-5 Jr G: a true G at 6-5; has amazing upsize; again plays within the system; showed that he can play point and get to the rack whenever he wanted to as well as crash the boards,

Horn Lake

Horn Lake: great all around team with plenty of depth; athletic

Carlos Thomas 6-8 Sr C: #21 ranked Sr in MS according to Mississippi Hoop Reports, this man bored me to death…and so does Tim Duncan but he wins. You have 3 types of 6-8; 6-8 dominant (Shaq style), 6-8 efficient (Duncan style) and out there because he is 6-8 (Shawn Bradley)??? Correct? Well he is 6-8 efficient and so is Duncan. His passes were perfect, made the best outlet pass on every rebound so his fast, athletic team could get out and run.  Didn’t force anything; took advantage of a lot of 2nd chance shots; didn’t require the ball to go through him on offense; SMART player; he is probably under rated because he is not flashy, but that’s ok. He will make some college coach very happy when they land him

team: they were playing without football players and most likely be for several more weeks, these guys are gritty; don’t give up and play with plenty of heart; loaded with athletes. Don’t be surprised to see Coach Gray make a serious push at the end of the year when all the pieces start falling in place.

North Panola

North Panola: Potential, seems like they have all the right pieces to fit together with a little fine tuning and they are young.

Jamarcus Jones 6-5 So C: great length; ball handler that can get to the rim with ease; this is another guy that should start popping up on radars soon
