Lighthouse Day 1 Notes

Corinth 3rd Annual Lighthouse Thanksgiving Classic

Friday November 27 Day 1

The Lighthouse didn’t waste any time as it kicked off with a bang and never looked back. I had a great time with Brandon Speck of NEMISSPREPS and Coach Jeff King of HSSPORTSMS. It is always fun listening to stories from Coach King. It is always a good thing seeing and catching up with Garrett Tucker of HOOPSEEN. Be sure to catch his notes and takes from the event. Vince Overholt and Gary Caveness really put on a good show for a great cause.

Okolona

Okolona: the more I see them, the better they get, got a great big to go with the team speed and defense. When Cam Smith gets fully healthy, watch out for them; I heard one person say the only way to beat them is to not dribble or pass just shoot because they will get the ball if you try and pass or dribble on them

Jacorrius Stanfied 5-6 Fr G: 17 pts, 7-10 fg, 8 reb, 5 ast, 2 st; fast, speedy, quick, how many other ways can you say it; energy; great defense

Cameron Smith 6-4 So G: 17 pts, 5 3’s, 3 st; it was great to see Cam on the floor again; gonna be great when he gets fully recovered and has all mobility again; nice long range shot

Biggersville

Biggersville: lost to a very good 2A team; Biggersville will make some noise in 1A this year; they are not where they were a couple years ago but are working their way back up; could end up being a 20 win ball club

Devonte Spears 6-0 So G: 22 pts, 6 reb, 2 st; this man can shoot and gets good elevation on his shot

Greg Robinson 6-5 Jr F: 12 pts, 12 reb, 2 bl; it was fun seeing Robinson go against 6-5 So C Ladarrius Spears of Okolona.

Tupelo

Tupelo: Tupelo is good; I have been know to not be a fan of Tupelo in the past but I’m sold now; really deep and athletic; no telling what this team would do if it had the Upchurch brothers back that moved to TN; missing big guy right now due to football injury; if not for 6A being loaded they would be a contender

Tre Jenkins 6-2 Sr G: 19 pts, 2 st, 7-7 ft; Tre showed up to play on both ends of the court; great shooter; great defense; team leader

Callaway

Damion Moore 6-11 Sr C: 14 pts, 8 reb; went up against another college commit; held his own; has developed a 10 ft jump shot; nice footwork around the basket; changes a lot of shots on the defensive end

Starkville

Darrius Wilson 6-0 Sr G: 21 pts, 5 3’s, 8-12 fg; sneaky; always seemed to find a spot on the court to get open; I heard the opposing Coach ask if they were playing 6 players because he was always taking open shots; he even said guard him and leave someone else open

Jessie Little 6-9 Jr F: 12 pts, 10 reb, 3 bl; very improved; he showed signs of being a college player; hit his free throws; played smart; Starkville needs him to play good this year to take pressure off of Carter

Tyson Carter 6-4 Sr G: 14 pts; he is not a stat hog; he is capable of averaging 8 ppg and still being the best player on the team; he shoots when he needs to; great defender; very smart ball player

Columbus

Columbus: this is the best team in the state; I wasn’t sold until I watched them play; major size; this has to be the biggest team in the state and they use every one of them; they were the biggest team at the Lighthouse that included national academy schools with 7 footers; give them time to get chemistry and they are a top 20 team in the nation; they handled the #3 ranked team in AL

Javante McDavid 5-11 Sr PG: 18 pts, 6-7 ft, 5 ast, 3 st; wait I was just talking about size and now I list a 5-11 guy????? What am I thinking? He was the man on Friday; fast; good ball handler; sets his big guys up for the right shots; his heart won’t fit into a 6-9 frame; big time heart

Robert Woodard II 6-6 So F: 16 pts, 15 reb, 3 bl; was trying to hard offensively; was forcing his shot a bit; defensive monster; rebounding monster

Chris Deloach 6-5 Sr F: 10 pts, 5-6 fg, 6 reb; played sparingly but was very effective when he was on the court; heard several juco coaches asking about him; seems like he got the ball whenever they needed a bucket early on; it also seemed like he had more than 6 boards
