NEO Hound Dog Classic at Tupelo

Notes from the NEO Hound Dog Classic

(North East Orthopaedic in case anybody was wondering)

Pontotoc

Ty Jones 6-6 Jr G/F: knows his limits; lets the game come to him and doesn’t force anything; he completely took the game over when he need to offensively and defensively; very gifted player. If he wants to get to the rim he will; can create his own shot if he needs to.

Jacques Townsend 6-3 Sr F: freakishly gifted athlete. If we are playing on the play ground I’m taking him 1st because I know he will let me shoot. He is the perfect teammate; grabs all loose balls and rebounds; doesn’t need to score. ENERGY Garbage player, remember the old saying, One mans garbage is another JUCO Coaches treasure…… Well that’s close enough to the saying

Tupelo

Tyjil Hereford 5-7 Jr G: there is not a 7 man full court trap in the state that can contain this man; while you are adding that up he just drove past you and got a dish on the other end. Quick; excellent ball handling skills.

Okolona

Jaylon Bailey 6-0 So G: often overlooked by the other 2 sophomores but can play; he kept Okolona in the game in the 1st half while his big guy was down with foul trouble; played with tons of heart

Ladarrious Spears 6-6 So C: sat most of the 1st half, made up for it in the 2nd with 18 points; he protected the rim well; played well with his back to the basket even though Tupelo had him doubled. He still got 18 being double teamed. If he would have played the entire game he would most likely have had a triple-double with boards and blocks.

Okolona team outlook: they were playing without 6-4 So G Cameron Smith (injury). That was the difference in the outcome, they win if he plays. Hopefully he will be able to make it back on the court in time for Okolona to get their chemistry together. They will be a hard team to deal with in 2A if the 3 sophomores get going. Okolona has a bright future ahead for several years to come.
