State Championship 2015-16

2015-16 State Championship

Notes

1A

Ashland

Ashland: Out rebounded 47-25 and still come away with the victory. Great young team with all starters returning.

West Lowndes

JaQuante Bell 6-5 F/C Jr: 11 pts, 5-8 fg, 11 reb, 2 blk. Played extremely hard and stat do not indicated how he was all over the place. Every time you looked up he was doing something.

4A

Corinth

Corinth: Corinth looked like they were player 8-5 out there and that’s 8 for Corinth. Everywhere you looked on the defensive end you saw white (Corinth) jerseys flying all over the place. Everybody likes to look at numbers and stats so I’ve got a good one for you. 23? 23 inches must be the size of the heart for the Warriors. Wait a second, you can’t measure heart, or can you. If you add up the size of the top 7 players on each team that played, McComb was a combined 22 inches taller than Corinth. Hey that MagnoliaHoops guy could be on to something even though he was the one that didn’t give Corinth a chance to win 10 ball games at the Lighthouse.

McComb

McComb: A very, very talented well coached team .

2A

West Tallahatchie

West Tallahatchie: 1st undefeated boys team since 1985. They just keep coming with that high pressure defense. I saw this team 2 years ago and said they were going to be something special.

Coahoma AHS

Coahoma AHS: The team that wasn’t suppose to be here because they were a 3 seed in their division. Just so happens that West Tallahatchie plays in the same division. Expect great things from this team the next few years. Coach Edwards took over a great program from Coach Springer and did an amazing job this year..

5A

Wayne County

Wayne County: Only 4 seniors on this team. You will see them back in Jackson soon.

Laurel

Laurel: Too many players that just keep the pressure coming at you. 16 players played and contributed a positive stat.

3A

Forest

Forest: Team full of talent and heart. Very well played game.

Kemper County

Kemper County: Wow what a Coach. Well rounded team Well deserving state champs.

Matt Dale 6-6 F/C Jr: 17 pts, 2 3’s, 15 reb, 7-11 ft. He really might be worth some coaches taking a look at. Soft touch and hustle. Big body rebounder.

Gus Nave 6-0 PG Jr: 20 pts, 5 reb, 3 ast. He might have had 10 assist if not for missed shots or shots where the players got foulded on. Played an all out game and score 8 of his 20 in the 4th quarter.

6A

Columbus

Javonte McDavid 5-11 PG Sr: 13 pts, 3-4 fg, 2 3’s, 5-6 ft. Everyone talks about all the massive size that Columbus has and for a good reason. They are huge but the biggest player for the Falcons this year could be the smallest one on the court. He hit a clutch shot and nailed 4-4 free throws in the 4th quarter to get the win. Clutch in the biggest game of the year while being iced on every shot.

Starkville

Starkville: Another great 6A team that had a great run.
