State Tournament Quarterfinal 5A

State Tournament Boys Quarterfinal 5A Session

Notes

Center Hill

Job Vernor 5-9 G Sr: 24 pt, 15-16 ft, 2 st. Fast shifty guard that can create a shot with ease.

Pascagoula

Pascagoula: Very deep athletic team.

Oxford

Jarkel Joiner 6-1 G Jr: 16 pts, 7-8 ft, 7 reb, 3 st. Speedy fast guard. Great elevation on his shot.

DK Metcalf 6-4 C Sr: 9 pts, 10 reb. Has to be the best physical specimen at the tournament, ever. His muscles have muscles.

Wayne County

Wayne County: Team speed. So much that they made Jarkel look average and that is fast and hard to do.

Laurel

Laurel: Played 15 players, the 3rd unit was equally as good as the 1st. Physical PRESSURE defense. I had to ice down after watching this game, and I’m still sore from it. This is a very physical and intimidating team.

Saltillo

Jayven Humphrey 6-4 F So: 15 pts, 5-8 fg, 2 3’s, 3-3 ft. Strong big body with range. Would have put together a very nice game if not for unforeseen foul trouble.

Jason Smith 6-4 F Sr: 13 pts, 6 blk. Very solid player from 15 ft and in. Should do very well on the next level.

Jawon Smith 6-4 G Sr: 11 pts, 5 reb2 ast, 3 st. Could possibly be one of the most underrated guards in the state. Has had issues with control but showed that them days are behind him as he handled Laurels pressure and that is very hard to do.

Saltillo: So much you can say here. This is the best team Saltillo has ever put on the court, ever. Coach Lauderdale took this team from uncontrollable at the start of the year to being in full control at the end against possibly the best team in the state. And took them to them down to the wire. They fought through adversity and it looks like it was a learning lesson for them.

Provine

Enriques Milton 6-2 G Sr: 22 pts, 9-17 fg, 4-6 ft, 14 reb, 3 ast. Very high motor that plays the full length of the court. Gives 100% the entire game.

Clarksdale

Easias Furdge 6-0 G/F So: 14 pts, 3 3’s, 5-6 ft, 4 st. Every time you look up, 22 was there causing trouble on the defensive end. I’m not sure he was even guarding anybody, just whoever had the ball every time.

Dykelius “Poo Bear” Grandberry 5-8 G Jr: 9 pts, 2 3’s, 4 reb, 2 st. Game winning 3 from the time line at the buzzer. Provine held Poo Bear very well during the game. But, I kept telling my buddy “Just wait and watch, Poo Bear is going to do something big in a minute.” He kept us waiting all the way until the buzzer but he made the wait count.

Clarksdale: A very good mix of bigs and speed. Coach Hill has seem to have found a good combination there and has them playing great basketball.
