MAC All-Star Game Notes

Thanks to Johnny Mims and the MAC for putting on the MS/AL All-Star Game and the North/South All-Star Game. Thanks to MS College for housing the event and thanks to Greg Morgan for supplying stats for the games.

MS/AL All-Star Notes

Taze Moore 6-5 G Southaven: 26 pts, 8 reb, 5 ast, 3 st, 2 3’s, 54% fg, 10-10 ft. Taze could be the official spokesperson for the MAC. He first impressed me last year at the North/South Game and stole the show at this years MS/AL Game. He lead the team in pts, reb, ast and st. Oh yeah, and he also had the game winning steal and lay up at the buzzer for the win. Taze will elevate his game once he gets to the college level. It was my pleasure watching him play this year.

North/South All-Star Notes

Galin Smith 6-9 F/C Clinton: 13 pts, 4 reb, 75% fg. He showed great touch from 15 ft. He was hitting 15 footers from inside the paint and from the baseline. He is quietly moving up my list of the 2017 talent, very close to the top.

Tyeus “Ty” Jones 6-6 G/F Pontotoc: 6 pts, 4 reb, 4 ast, 1 blk, 1 st, 2-2 ft in only 8 min. I’ve heard a couple people say that Ty didn’t have a good game in Clinton. In my opinion he had a great game for the limited amount of minutes he played. He showed excellent ball handling skills with great hands around the rim .Give him 8 more minutes and he we have been flirting with a triple-double. He was a big match-up issue as well. He could overpower guards and run past forwards. He could be high D1 before it’s all said and done.

Chavis Banks 6-4 F Yazoo City: 14 pts, 6 reb, 3 st, 64% fg. Garbage man. He played very hard, great hustle. He always seemed to be in the right place at the right time.

Nikolas Weatherspoon 6-2 G Velma Jackson: 24 pts, 2 3’s. He really showed up in the 2nd half going 6-7 from the floor while scoring 20 points. It seemed as if you could go ahead and count the points with the ball in his hands.

Ledarrius Brewer 6-5 G/F Meridian: 18 pts, 7 reb, 2 3’s. He come up with every timely rebound in the 1st half. He scored with ease from under the basket, mid-range and long range.

Troymain Crosby 6-4 G/F Laurel: 20 pts, 11 reb, 4 ast, 2 3’s, 57% fg. He kept the state championship style play going in the all-star game. He played full speed, doing everything on the court. I was impressed with his ability to get to the rim. 4.0 GPA as well.

Winford Ross Jr 6-8 F Madison St. Joseph Catholic: 11 pt, 7 reb, 2 bl, 3-3 fg, 5-6 ft. He showed a well rounded game with the ability to go down low and bring the ball up when needed.

Tirus “Ty” Smith 6-8 F/C Petal: 9 pt, 7 reb, 3 bl. Great back to the basket game. They went to him in the clutch to win the game. Nailed an and 1 to help close out the game.
