Petal vs Oak Grove

From Oak Grove HS

#13 MS Petal Panthers 11-2 (6A Petal, MS) 73

#75 MS Oak Grove Warriors 10-10 (6A Hattiesburg, MS) 36

Petal showed up at the rivalry game and got a strong division win. Petal was paced by Treylan “Trey” Smith (6-4 ’20 G Petal 26 pts, 17 in the 2nd half, 2 3’s). Trey showed up with that wow factor. He scored on every level whenever he felt like it. He left plenty of fingerprints on the Oak Grove rims. The super sophomore played hard on both sides of the court and displayed his handles in front of a energetic crowd. He walked away with an offer from Southeastern Louisiana. Mykah Brown (6-3 ’18 PG Petal 14 pts, 11 in 2nd half, 7-8 ft), who signed with MS Gulf Coast CC the day before, had the opportunity to play in front of his Coach Hardy. He looked really impressive playing the point and getting his teammates involved in the action. He shot the ball on several possessions and didn’t even hit the rim. He also nailed 7 of 8 free throws in the same fashion. Caleb Mcgill (6-5 ’20 G/F Petal 14 pts), who transferred to Petal from Seminary, provided a very big punch for the Panthers. He looked really good running the break and added a very big spark on the defensive end. A bright spot for Oak Grove was senior Noah Harris (6-5 ’18 F/C Oak Grove 10 pts). Harris, who is very high academic and has already been accepted to attend Harvard, played big around the basket. He showed that he has the tools to take his game to the next level.

ALFA Insurance Classic

From Bay Springs HS

#197 MS West Jones Mustangs 6-6 (5A Laurel, MS) 70

#253 MS Raleigh Lions 4-10 (3A Raleigh, MS) 27

Jon-Micah Coleman (6-1 ’19 F/C West Jones 11 pts 4 reb 3 st) earned MVP and All-Tournament honors. Stud freshman Tajrick Randolph (6-0 ’21 G/F West Jones 2 pts 2 st) played limited minutes in the victory. Coach Milloy was up against the wall with only 5 available players able to play. The players that showed up played hard and never gave up. Team manager Jameon Page (’22 G Raleigh 11 pts 3 3’s) arrived at the school expecting to keep the players hydrated but quickly took on a new role. The new role involved giving buckets instead of giving water. The 8th grader played his first ever high school minutes and led the team in points (11) while earning a spot on the All-Tournament team. He, as well as his other Raleigh partners, became fan favorites with their determination and drive in the uphill battle.

#258 MS Heidelberg Oilers 5-14 (2A Heidelberg, MS) 59

#186 MS Union Yellowjackets 9-9 (2A Union, MS) 44

I love it when I get to go to games and find out about new studs. Found one from Heidelberg. Randarius Hughes (6-5 ’20 G Heidelberg 19 pts, 12 in 2nd half, 6-8 ft 10 reb 3 ast) stole the show in this game winning MVP and All-Tournament honors. He is a very athletic and talented guard that will be on the rise. Hughes also had the dunk of the day win a monster poster. Donavon Parker (6-0 ’21 G Heidelberg 22 pts 3 3’s 3 reb 2 ast) had a good performance and is a great shooting freshman to keep an eye on. Heidelberg has to be one of the better 5 win teams in the state and they can make some noise in the playoffs. Union was another pleasant surprise. PJ Gage (5-10 ’19 G/F Union 15 pts 3 3’s 5 reb 2 st 2 ast) earned All-Tournament honors with his hard play. JT Vance (6-2 ’20 F Union 8 pts 8 reb) is a solid player to key an eye on. Jamarcus Jones (6-4 ’21 C Union 4 pts) had some bright spots and could be a big time player down the road.

#1 MS Meridian Wildcats 23-1 (2A Meridian, MS) 68

#42 MS Bay Springs Bulldogs 14-3 (2A Bay Springs, MS) 52

This was one of the better games I’ve seen this year. Two possible state champions battling it out. This game was very entertaining for the fans and everyone involved. The Coaches even let two players battle it out down the stretch of the game in a one-on-one battle that the fans were dying to see. Every possession in this game was entertaining. Coach Norman said it best when he stated it felt like they were all family. Both teams made each other better in this game. It got testy at points and both teams met at half court after the game and hugged it out after the hard battle. Mad respect for both Coaches and players for the extremely hard battle then cooling off afterwards. Miles Miller (6-2 ’18 PG Meridian 20 pts 4 3’s 4 reb 3 ast 5 st) was the MVP and got the All-Tournament team award. Tyron “Ty” Brewer (6-7 ’18 F Meridian 15 pts 11 reb 2 st 2 blk) had a big double-double. Meridian was missing Vontrell Pringle (6-7 ’19 G Meridian). Treamond Pittman (6-0 ’19 PG Meridian 11 pts 3 reb 3 ast 2 st) had a solid game. Bay Springs had three players step up. Kevin Grimes (6-3 ’19 G Bay Springs 23 pts 4-5 ft 3 3’s 9 reb), Damien Wheaton (6-7 ’19 F/C Bay Springs 8 reb 7 blk) and Ja’Corrieous Moore (6-2 ’19 G Bay Springs 16 pts 8 reb) posted big games and showed a really bright future for the Bulldogs.
