#48, #4 Leflore County (24-7) (Itta Bena) 42

#15, #1 Coahoma County (28-4) (Clarksdale) 49

The fourth meeting of these two schools wasn’t the charm for Leflore County but it sure was a better showing. Leflore County gave Coahoma County a battle in the fourth meeting. Young big man Jai’Sheldon “Jai” Yates (6-5 ’21 F/C Coahoma County 15 pts 6-8 fg 11 reb) made his first Big House appearance with many more sure to come. The Big House atmosphere didn’t bother him at all as he was Player of the Game with his solid and steady performance. Markevious Phillips (6-3 ’19 G Coahoma County 18 pts 5-9 fg 7 reb 2 blk 2 st) had several highlight reel plays in the win.

#4, #1 Olive Branch (26-4) (Olive Branch) 71

#8, #4 Callaway (25-6) (Jackson) 50

Olive Branch jumped out to a big lead and then let off the gas allowing Callaway to get back into the game. The OB defense then showed back up in the third quarter by only allowing 5 points to help the win. Kelvin “Lil K” Allen (6-1 ’18 G Olive Branch 27 pts 10-13 fg 2 3’s 5-5 ft 2 st) made sure this wasn’t his last high school game with a solid performance. De’Corian “DJ” Jeffries (6-8 ’19 G Olive Branch 20 pts 4-4 ft 5 reb 3 ast 5 blk) had a special visitor watching him in the stands. This unannounced spectator made his way to center court and sat court side during the first half for a good view. This visitor is the best recruiter in the country, he has had the best players in the country play in front of him year in and year out. Yes, the Donnie Wilkie from the historic City of Palms Classic in Florida was there to see if Olive Branch had what it took to be able to play in the tournament next year. Olive Branch didn’t disappoint. Cameron “Mook” Matthews (6-6 ’20 F Olive Branch 6 pts 3-5 fg 12 reb 3 ast 2 st) looked very strong in the win also.
