2018 Adidas Gauntlet Notes and Results

Lakepoint Champions Center

Cartersville, GA

April 27-29, 2018

17U Gold

Hoop City Elite (1-8) Memphis

The team formerly known as M33M went 0-5 on the weekend.

Malik Riddle 6-4 ’18 SG Rossville Christian (TN) (Holly Springs): 18 ppg 2 3pg 3 rpg

Malik has really stepped his game up this summer. He is shooting the ball very well from long range. He is playing well above the rim with some impressive hops.

Team Carroll Premier (8-1) Birmingham

Team Carroll went 4-1 on the weekend.

Dmitry Rivny 6-8 ’18 SF Central Park Christian (AL): 14 ppg 2 3pg 4 rpg 1 apg 86% ft

Surprisingly athletic wing can stroke it. He is one that I missed at the New Albany Hot Bed Classic and now holds an offer from Alabama.

Isaac Chatman 6-6 ’18 G/F Cordova (AL): 12 ppg 1 3pg 3 rpg 1 apg 1 bpg 50% fg

Isaac feels like a Mississippi kid due to the amount of times he’s played here over his high school career at numerous locations.

OSAG-One Shot At Glory (4-5) Madison

The team formerly known as MBA went 1-4 on the weekend.

Emmanuel Okpomo 6-9 ’20 C Huntington Prep (WV) Jackson: 6 ppg 7 rpg 1 bpg 1 spg 63% fg

Jaemyn Brakefield 6-9 ’20 G/F Huntington Prep (WV) Jackson: 27 ppg (leads Adidas) 2 3pg 6 rpg 2 apg 1 bpg 1 spg 70-93 ft 75% ft 51% fg

Jaemyn was playing with the flu this weekend and just didn’t have his regular speed burst or energy. He still was able to manage 23 ppg even with the flu but it dropped his Adidas leading average. He proved why he is a top 10 player in the country.

Joseph “Joee” Cooper 6-3 ’19 PG Olive Branch: 12 ppg 1 3pg 3 rpg 6 apg

Joee showed why he might be the best passer in the country and is really starting to see his recruitment pick up. If you are playing with him, get open and I guarantee that he will find you. He managed to get to the basket and score when he needed to keep the defense honest.

Michael Barber 6-8 ’18 G/F Jackson Academy: 8 ppg 7 rpg 1 apg 1 bpg

Mike looked good this weekend crashing boards and scoring around the basket. He is the best unsigned 2018 left in the state and was watched closely by several Coaches this weekend.

TraDavis Thompson 6-1 ’19 PG Raymond: 4 ppg 1 rpg 1 apg 1 spg 80% ft

I never really realized how much of a defensive presence he was until this weekend. He defends at a very high level when playing man. He is one that could see a rise in his recruitment this summer if Coaches are looking for lock down defenders that can protect the ball and shoot free-throws at a high percentage.

Tucker Hill 6-7 ’19 SG Tishomingo County: 6 ppg 2 3pg 50% 3’s 1 rpg

Tucker is another one that will see a rise in his recruitment for next year. He is hitting half the three’s he’s shooting so far this summer. The other biggest aspect of his game that he’s not had the opportunity to show yet is his free-throw shooting. He also shoots the charity shot at a high percentage.

17U Silver

SR1 All-Stars (1-2) Ridgeland

Dillon Farmer 6-4 SF ’19 SF Choctaw Central

Dillon scored the basket down low for the overtime win.

Jaylen Washington 6-1 ’19 SG Durant

He delivered a pass to where only Dillon could get it to score the game winning basket. He played very well with a solid game across the board. He didn’t try and overdo it. He just played his solid game. Very impressed with him.

Mississippi Kings (4-0) Biloxi

Gold AA-HH Champs

16U Gold

Team Carroll Premier (5-3) Montgomery

Team Carroll went 4-0 on the weekend.

Cameron Boozer Jr 6-9 ’20 C Lanett (AL)

Zameron Boozer 6-8 ’20 PF Lanett (AL)

These previous two fall under the same note. How in the world does Lanett keep coming up with this much size and talent for a 2A Alabama school? Crazy how they keep reloading.

Dallas Howell 6-6 ’20 SG Enterprise (AL)

First time seeing this developing stud was at the Rodney Hood camp and he has only gotten better since. The silky-smooth lefty shooter already has a 30 ACT with a 3.98ish GPA. He should be a target for Ivy League schools as he develops over the next couple years.

Jayden Stone 6-2 ’20 PG Central Park Christian (AL)

I’m going to raise my hand and say I missed this one. The former New Albany Hot Bed Classic Player of the Game impressed me in New Albany but I was not overly impressed. He now has my full attention. He is a high major hidden gem. The real deal point can do it all. He scores on all levels and can easily create open shots for his teammates. He rebounds at a high level on the defensive end. His handles are high level. He defends with great intensity. The smooth guard plays smart and can get into the lane when he wants it. He plays above the rim and can score around contact. He plays very calm and controls the pace of the game. Learn his name. He will be rising in the top 100 rankings by the end of the summer.

OSAG (0-8) Madison

OSAG went 0-4 this weekend.

16U Silver

G2S Kings (3-2) Winfield, AL

Mississippi Juice (0-3) Senatobia

DaMarion Arrington 6-4 ’20 SF Wingfield

I liked him when I watched him during the regular season and I really like him after watching him this weekend. He had the best dunk I saw over the entire weekend when he put this poor fellow on a poster. He has the ability to take a game completely over if he wants to. He has massive ups and is very versatile with the ball or on the court. He can play several positions. He scores easily around the basket. He was a defensive presence either playing man or protecting the rim from the weak side.

Daniel “D.H.” Dew 6-0 ’20 G Madison-Ridgeland Academy

This is the second or third time seeing him play and what he does or has I really can’t describe. But he has something that makes you watc hand say “Hmmm.” I’ll eventually wrap my mind on what he has got going but I do know it’s something good.

SR1 All-Stars (1-2) Ridgeland

Dillon Johnson 6-1 ’20 PG Greenville St. Joseph

He has a bright future in multiple sports.

Kenard Bowie 6-5 ’20 SG Callaway

I’ve seen Kenard play several times and this was for sure the best I’ve seen him play. He has really good upside with his skills and size.

Quandarius Studaway 5-10 ’20 PG Lanier

As I arrived at the gym late due to some great Atlanta traffic he caught my eye. He kept it as the game progressed and maintained my intrigue level. He plays hard and smart. I was very impressed with his ability to get in the lane and score or kick. He’s on my radar for sure now.
