December 17-22 Report
The stats listed are unofficial but are close to what the players accomplished on the court (mostly because I run my mouth too much and don’t pay the closest attention the entire game).

Horn Lake vs Lafayette
From Lafayette HS
Oxford, MS
(B) Horn Lake Eagles 11-3 (6A Horn Lake, MS) 53
MS #16 6A #9
Lafayette Commodores 2-11 (5A Oxford, MS) 40
MS #214 5A #31
Notes: Horn Lake was playing without Quenton Kyles (6-5 ’19 F Horn Lake) due to injury. Courtney Walls (6-0 ’20 F Horn Lake) stepped up in his place to help lead them to victory. Horn Lake is very deep and Coach Tori Harris uses a lot of players. Stephon Isom (6-7 ’19 G/F Lafayette) had an impressive game for Lafayette. He showed range by knocking down several three’s. He stole a pass and took it the length of the court using his shiftyness to get to the rack before getting fouled. He also had several times where he tried to punish the rim with aggressive dunks. With older brother Hogan Linzy (6-6 ’19 SF Phillips Academy, Andover, MA) in attendance, Benton Linzy (6-5 ’21 F Lafayette) had a very productive game. He took advantage of easy scoring opportunities and crashed the boards hard. It was also great catching up with Hogan. If anyone is ever considering going the post grad route look at his success or talk to him. His experiences will make it easy for you to go this route.

Okolona vs Ashland
From Ashland HS
Ashland, MS
(B) Okolona Chieftains 7-1 (1A Okolona, MS) 82
MS #48 1A #1
Ashland Blue Devils 0-13 (1A Ashland, MS) 48
MS #234 1A #26
Notes: Okolona got a big jump between the two 1A traditional powers for the win. Jamal Moore (6-5 ’19 G/F Okolona) notched a double-double for the Player of the Game award. He showed some range and was able to take the defenders off the dribble and get into the lane. Jacorrius “Tudy” Stanfield (5-7 ’19 PG Okolona) had player of the game type numbers with his double-double too. He fought hard to get rebounds off of his own misses and was a headache for the opposing team. Dontavious Doss (’20 PG Okolona) played hard to lead the team in scoring. He took advantage of scoring opportunities with his scrappy play. Coach Arteria Clifton also got to display a couple of his future guys in the win. Dailin Cooperwood (’22 PG Okolona) is a very nice looking young point. Andrew Cape (’21 F/C Okolona) and Destaan Buchanan (6-2 ’21 G/F Okolona) both looked very solid down low. Okolona is a team that has the ability to make a long post season run. Tavionne Stigger (6-2 ’19 SF Ashland) was a bright spot for Ashland. He has a good size basketball body wit ha good frame. He scored, rebounded and despite his lack of assist, made some very good passes.

Amory Shootout
From Amory HS
Amory, MS
(B) Pontotoc Warriors 13-2 (4A Pontotoc, MS) 70
MS #52 4A #10
Nettleton Tigers 14-1 (3A Nettleton, MS) 52
MS #28 3A #3
Notes: Wow, what a game despite the lopsided looking score. It was not close to being what the score indicated. Austin Nickson (6-3 ’20 F/C Pontotoc) took the game over during a stretch in the fourth quarter to help get the win. Manoj Nickson (5-9 ’20 G Pontotoc) and Kourtland Armstrong (5-8 ’20 G Pontotoc) continue to impress at the guard spots for Pontotoc. Cade Armstrong (6-2 ’21 F Pontotoc) had a very solid game. He used mismatches to score around the baseline and paint. Rock Robinson (6-4 ’21 G/F Pontotoc) played very limited minutes due to foul trouble and still scored a game high 20 points. Shawn Pounds (6-1 ’19 G Nettleton) has really improved from last year and needs to be seen by next level Coaches. He notched a double-double while doing a little bit of everything on the court.

Notes: This was a completely different looking Lafayette team from what I watched earlier in the week. Connor Rucker (6-3 ’20 G Lafayette) provided a spark to the starting lineup with his solid play. Jacquette Young (5-8 ’19 PG Aberdeen) is a scorer and play maker that needs to be seen by next level Coaches.

Notes: Hunter Stacy (6-3 ’20 G Biggersville) stepped up big for Biggersville in all areas of the court. He did a little bit of everything to help his team get the victory while earning Player of the Game honors. The best player on the court was Isaiah Thompson (6-3 ’20 F Amory). He dropped 30 and could’ve dropped 40 plus had he not ran out of gas in the second half. He is a beast and will be a good target for next level Coaches next year. James Spratt (5-11 ’21 G/F Amory) and Jay Hampton (6-1 ’21 G/F Amory) are very solid young players and prospects for Amory.

MS #23 5A #9
Stringer Red Devils 11-5 (1A Stringer, MS) 58
MS #119 1A #11
Notes: Coach Jerry Byrd and his Fellas are a very solid team. He always puts a quality team on the court. Coby McMillan (6-3 ’20 G Neshoba Central) and Jacob McMillan (6-2 ’20 PG Neshoba Central) are very complimentary pieces. Both can do it all including score. Another good upcoming piece is Bryceton Spencer (5-11 ’22 G Neshoba Central). He’s a nice looking guard that will be a good one to keep an eye on. Keyshawn Dease (6-3 ’19 G/F Stringer) is a beast for Coach Brandon Jennings. He is a freak athlete that can score in bunches. Next level Coaches need to check him out this season. Omarion Bridges (6-0 ’21 G Stringer) is a hard playing young prospect to keep an eye on.

Heidelberg Oilers 7-4 (2A Heidelberg, MS) 58
MS #67 2A #7
Notes: First off, I’ve got to bring up that Coach Marcus Price always has the best dressed team in Mississippi. They always come in looking professional and top notch. Jontarius Henderson (6-1 ’19 G Laurel) earned Player of the Game award with his play in the fourth quarter. Antwan “Twan” Hatten (6-4 ’20 G Laurel) was well on his way to the POTG honors with his double-double if he had not fouled out early. Laurel plays like they always do. They get after you defensively and they bring it with the bench. Randarius Hughes (6-6 ’20 G Heidelberg) is a super stud. He has D1 potential and is a super athletic guard. He always plays well above the rim so don’t jump, just don’t jump. He is a must see player that is probably the most unknown and slept on in the state.

Notes: It’s good to see Yorel Phillips (6-4 ’19 G Newton) back on the court again after taking a few years off. He can do a little bit of everything on the court and will help Newton in the playoff run this season. Marquis Crosby (5-10 ’21 G Seminary) is super quick and strong. The smooth shooting lefty is fun to watch.
