MHSAA 5A Quarterfinals
Schedule and Projections
Interesting Quarterfinals Games
Center Hill (23-8) #4 travels 107 miles to ICC vs Cleveland Central (17-13) #48 travels 174 miles to ICC- Cleveland Central goes in trying to knock of a team with 0 losses to 5A opponents this season. Coach Berryhill will have his guys ready for the challenge and I see this game being really close and really good before Center Hill slips by with the win. This game will have two of the top juniors in the state in Kaeden Laws of Center Hill and Jamal Anderson of Cleveland Central.
Forest Hill (24-5) #5 travels 133 miles to PRCC vs Laurel (18-11) #54 travels 70 miles to PRCC- Senior Dre Montgomery and Forest Hill have been sniping teams all season. Laurel has really come on strong at the end but I’m afraid it’s not going to be enough to knock of Forest Hill. Can senior Antwan Hatten keep Montgomery in check to get the win?
Holmes County Central (19-11) #27 travels 162 miles to ICC vs Callaway (22-5) #1 travels 207 miles to ICC- At ICC you have two different groups of teams, the big dogs and the underdogs. The Centrals, Holmes County and Cleveland, fit the perfect underdog role going against the best 2 teams in 5A. Callaway and Center Hill come in as the favorites to win it all but Holmes County has a chance to make it very interesting like the previous mentioned Cleveland Central. Top junior in the state Daeshun Ruffin of Callaway will need to have a big game to keep his team climbing the bracket.
Natchez (16-11) #57 travels 148 miles to PRCC vs Wingfield (21-11) #19 travels 130 miles to PRCC- Don’t look now but senior Squirt Stampley still has his Natchez guys getting wins. Wingfield has been flirting with that top 10 mark all season long and pulled off a huge upset last week by defeating Hattiesburg at their place. This one is actually harder to call than most would think.
Biggest Potential Upset According to MaxPreps Rankings
Laurel isn’t far from home and Forest Hill could be in line for a slip-up here if they are not careful.
