MHSAA Semifinals Schedule and Projections
All semifinals games will be played at the Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson. Projected winners in bold. (Record) #MS MaxPreps rankings SOS-Strength of Schedule.
1A
Baldwyn (17-12) #93 SOS 3.0
travels 207 miles to the Big House
West Tallahatchie (17-9) #98 SOS -.03
travels 131 miles to The Big House
Notes: The last time these two teams met in Jackson it ended with a Sports Center Top 10 Play as Calvin “Smurf” Harris drained a 3/4 court shot for Baldwyn at the buzzer for the win. I think this game will be just as good as the last. Early in the season I had a Baldwyn/Ingomar final and it has a chance to play out. West Tallahatchie has a chance to ruin my early predictions.
Ingomar (34-2) #20 SOS 2.2
travels 192 miles to the Big House
Shaw (23-9) #58 SOS 3.3
travels 114 miles to the Big House
Notes: Shaw has had a very good season but Ingomar is a buzz-saw. They knocked off a very good Coffeeville team and look to continue their dominance.
4A
Greenwood (24-7) #25 SOS 8.2
travels 97 miles to the Big House
Florence (25-7) #49 SOS 2.5
travels 14 miles to the Big House
Notes: I keep picking against Florence and they keep proving me wrong. Greenwood has had basically 5 home games in a row during their playoff run. Florence uses their Big House experience to make the championship game.
Ripley (28-3) #15 SOS 6.3
travels 210 miles to the Big House
Raymond (24-7) #13 SOS 12.2
travels 20 miles to the Big House
Notes: This could easily be your 4A state championship game. Ripley has the advantage with their senior guards. Raymond has a second home gym and it’s called the Big House. This game will be one of the best in Jackson. Raymond uses home court to outlast Ripley.
2A
Coahoma County (22-10) #53 SOS 5.0
travels 157 miles to the Big House
North Forrest (20-8) #101 SOS -2.0
travels 86 miles to the Big House
Notes: Coahoma County is on the way back to the top of 2A. The dethroned the Royals of northeast Mississippi to make another appearance in Jackson. North Forrest advanced on a last minute steal and basket. This should be a pretty good game but Coahoma makes the trip back north with one more to play.
Potts Camp (23-7) #57 SOS 2.3
travels 193 miles to the Big House
Philadelphia (24-5) #91 SOS -4.2
travels 86 miles to the Big House
Notes: Potts Camp won a big time game over Calhoun City to make it back down to the Big House. Philadelphia will make the trip after an extended absence. Potts Camp is just too big and strong in the Big House this year.
5A
Center Hill (24-8) #4 SOS 16.9
travels 208 miles to the Big House
Forest Hill (25-5) #5 SOS 14.7
travels 11 miles to the Big House
Notes: Center Hill escaped Cleveland Central while Forest Hill walked into the semi’s. This game will be another good one. The defending champs get a chance to repeat here.
Callaway (23-5) #1 SOS 19.4
travels 8 miles to the Big House
Wingfield (22-11) #19 SOS 14.0
travels 8 miles to the Big House
Notes: Callaway looked way too good in the win over Holmes County Central. Wingfield pulled off one of the biggest upsets by defeating Hattiesburg down there. Then they knocked of Squirt and Natchez. Callaway is on the way of taking David Sanders back to Ole Miss.
3A
Holly Springs (25-7) #22 SOS 8.9
travels 189 miles to the Big House
St. Andrew’s Episcopal (27-6) #30 SOS 4.4
travels 11 miles to the Big House
Notes: Both teams pulled off big upsets in the last few games. This will be another great game to add to the classics these two have had with each other the last few years. It’s hard to pick a winner here but it’s hard to go against St. Andrew’s in this spot.
Houston (22-10) #77 SOS 1.8
travels 156 miles to the Big House
Velma Jackson (29-5) #10 SOS 7.7
travels 46 miles to the Big House
Notes: Congrats to Houston on making the Big House. Bad news. You get the defending champs. Velma has been rolling everyone and I don’t see this trend stopping now.
6A
Starkville (26-2) #9 SOS 8.4
travels 125 miles to the Big House
Harrison Central (26-4) #6 SOS 13.3
travels 151 miles to the Big House
Notes: Starkville defeated my favorites to win 6A. Harrison Central pulled out a big win over Petal. Harrison Central might be one year away while Starkville is doing what they do every year.
Murrah (18-10) #18 SOS 16.5
travels 3 miles to the Big House
Biloxi (24-4) #17 SOS 7.9
travels 163 miles to the Big House
Notes: Biloxi pulled off the big rivalry game win to make it to the capital city. Murrah can walk to the stadium if they want to. A very young and talented Murrah team gets a chance to experience a championship game.
