2020 MHSAA 2A Post Season Report

The stats used are stats listed on MaxPreps. You must have stats listed on MaxPreps to be eligible for Head of the Class, Starting Five and Senior Squad.

How do you get on the Magnolia Hoops Report? I put players on here that catch my eye or have a combined stat total of ten. Catching my eye could be leadership from the bench, really good players (without stats listed) or just hard play. Combined stat line of ten can be in any form. It’s doesn’t have to be points only. It can be any of the stats added up to make double-digits.

The Magnolia Hoops Head of the Class is the player with the best stat line by grade. The Magnolia Hoops Starting Five is the top five players with the best stat line for the entire season. The Magnolia Hoops Head Coach is the Coach that did the best job with their team. The Katie Roberts Photography Senior Squad is the top five seniors with the best stat lines.

1. Coahoma County (24-10)– Resume State Champs, VS 2A (16-1) Key 2A wins (New Site by 14, North Forrest by 13, Potts Camp by 20), 2A losses (Northside by 1), Other key wins (Shaw by 22, ), The 2A State Champs started off the season with a rough start but finished strong. Only loss in 2A was by 1 point.
2. New Site (30-4)– Resume VS 2A (11-1) Key 2A wins (Potts Camp by 3, Potts Camp by 10), 2A losses (Coahoma County by 14), Other key wins (Pontotoc by 21, New Albany by 5, Lindsay Lane (AL) by 2, Baldwyn by 8), The only 2A loss came to the Champs. Some big wins over a few bigger schools.
3. Potts Camp (24-8)– Resume VS 2A (10-3) Key 2A wins (Calhoun City by 10, South Delta by 6, Calhoun City by 3, Philadelphia by 20), 2A losses (New Site by 3, New Site by 10, Coahoma County by 20), Other key wins (Byers by 6, Baldwyn by 4, Noxubee County by 2), Only losing to 2 teams in 2A, New Site and Coahoma County while racking up several big wins including at South Delta
4. Calhoun City (24-8)– Resume VS 2A (12-2) Key 2A wins (), 2A losses (Potts Camp by 10, Potts Camp by 3), Other key wins (Coffeeville by 9, Noxubee County by 21, Houlka by 5, North Panola by 8, Houston by 13), They were a couple possessions away from getting the big win over Potts Camp in the playoffs. Several other keys wins along the way.
5. Philadelphia (24-6)– Resume VS 2A (17-1) Key 2A wins (St. Patrick by 15), 2A losses (Potts Camp by 20), Other key wins (Kemper County by 8), Only 2A loss was to Potts Camp.
6. Amite County (23-4)– Resume VS 2A (14-1) Key 2A wins (), 2A losses (North Forrest by 1), Other key wins (), Only one loss in 2A and that was a buzzer beater by 1.
7. North Forrest (20-9)– Resume VS 2A (11-4) Key 2A wins (St. Patrick by 8, Heidelberg by 3, Amite County by 1), 2A losses (St. Patrick by 3, Taylorsville by 4, St. Patrick by 6, Coahoma County by 13), Other key wins (Jefferson Davis County by 21, Presbyterian Christian by 5), Big buzzer-beater win over Amite County.
8. South Delta (21-8)– Resume VS 2A (13-3) Key 2A wins (), 2A losses (O’Bannon by 3, Madison St. Joseph Catholic by 2, Potts Camp by 6), Other key wins (), Played Potts Camp a very close game in the playoffs.
9. Heidelberg (24-7)– Resume VS 2A (16-2) Key 2A wins (), 2A losses (Bay Springs by 17, North Forrest by 3), Other key wins (Lawrence County by 11), Only lost by 3 in the playoffs to North Forrest
10. St. Patrick (22-9)– Resume VS 2A (9-4) Key 2A wins (North Forrest by 3, North Forrest by 6), 2A losses (Collins by 30, Collins by 10, North Forrest by 8, Philadelphia by 15), Other key wins (), A couple key 2A wins over final 4 team North Forrest.
