2020 MHSAA 6A Post Season Report

2020 MHSAA 6A Post Season Report

The stats used are stats listed on MaxPreps. You must have stats listed on MaxPreps to be eligible for Head of the Class, Starting Five and Senior Squad.

How do you get on the Magnolia Hoops Report? I put players on here that catch my eye or have a combined stat total of ten. Catching my eye could be leadership from the bench, really good players (without stats listed) or just hard play. Combined stat line of ten can be in any form. It’s doesn’t have to be points only. It can be any of the stats added up to make double-digits.

The Magnolia Hoops Head of the Class is the player with the best stat line by grade. The Magnolia Hoops Starting Five is the top five players with the best stat line for the entire season. The Magnolia Hoops Head Coach is the Coach that did the best job with their team. The Katie Roberts Photography Senior Squad is the top five seniors with the best stat lines.

Rankings

  1. Starkville (24-2)– Resume State Champs, VS 6A (14-1) Key 6A wins (Clinton by 1, Olive Branch by 2, Harrison Central by 17, Murrah by 7), 6A losses (Meridian by 4), Other key wins (Coffeeville by 15, Center Hill by 1, Noxubee County by 33, Houston by 26, Noxubee County by 2), What a run by the state champs. Losses to Meridian and Pontotoc were bumps in the road but they finished very strong.
  2. Olive Branch (22-6)– Resume VS 6A (11-1) Key 6A wins (), 6A losses (Starkville by 2), Other key wins (Shaw by 48, Covington (TN) by 9, Houston (TN) by 15, St. Benedict at Auburndale (TN) by 19, Shaw by 30, Washington (TN) by 3, Briarcrest Christian (TN) by 1, Mountain Brook (AL) by 1, St. Benedict at Auburndale (TN) by 22), Only one loss in state this season and it was at the buzzer to the 6A state champs. They even stepped out and played the #1 team in the country. A really tough national schedule across the board puts them in the 2 spot.
  3. Oak Grove (24-4)– Resume VS 6A (12-2) Key 6A wins (Harrison Central by 15, Brandon by 13, Petal by 35, Meridian by 14, Petal by 12, Biloxi by 18, Meridian by 3), 6A losses (Meridian by 16, Harrison Central by 3), Other key wins (Jefferson Davis County by 22, Holmes County Central by 6, Hattiesburg by 3), Wow what a season for Oak Grove that ended way too early. Two losses in 6A to teams that they beat earlier in the year.
  4. Murrah (19-11)– Resume VS 6A (12-4) Key 6A wins (Clinton by 5, Biloxi by 13), 6A losses (Meridian by 17, Warren Central by 3, Clinton by 1, Starkville by 7), Other key wins (Velma Jackson by 18, Yazoo County by 1, Wingfield by 6, ), They made it to the big game and made it a very good one. Several 6A losses in there kinda sting but they had several great wins too. You could probably notch 4-9 any way you see it to make your team sound better.
  5. Harrison Central (26-5)– Resume VS 6A (14-4) Key 6A wins (Biloxi by 11, Gulfport by 5, Meridian by 1, Gulfport by 3, Clinton by 2, Gulfport by 8, Oak Grove by 3, Petal by 4), 6A losses (Oak Grove by 15, Petal by 4, Gulfport by 2, Starkville by 17), Other key wins (Hattiesburg by 10, Presbyterian Christian by 18, Forrest County by 19, Pensacola (FL) by 5), Avenged all 6A losses but Starkville and that was in Starkville’s second home. Several bug wins over 6A teams.
  6. Meridian (23-6)– Resume VS 6A (13-4) Key 6A wins (Starkville by 4, Murrah by 17, Clinton by 14, Petal by 6, Petal by 26, Gulfport by 19, Petal by 17, Oak Grove by 16), 6A losses (Harrison Central by 1, Oak Grove by 14, Oak Grove by 3, Gulfport by 14), Other key wins (Sumter Central (AL) by 33, Raymond by 6, Hattiesburg by 19, ), Who is Meridian? The team that beat Starkville, Murrah, Clinton, Oak Grove and Gulfport or the team that lost to Oak Grove and Gulfport? They avenged 3 of the 6A losses and only lost the other game by 1. Then they beat the champ and runner-up????
  7. Clinton (23-9)– Resume VS 6A (10-7) Key 6A wins (Murrah by 1), 6A losses (Northwest Rankin by 15, Brandon by 6, Meridian by 14, Harrison Central by 2, Murrah by 5, Madison Central by 9, Starkville by 1), Other key wins (Gentry by 7, Florence by 11, Wingfield by 10, St. Andrew’s Episcopal by 10, Raymond by 10, Rayville (LA) by 5, Vicksburg by 1), Some big wins and bad losses here but the biggest game was losing a buzzer-beater by 1 at the state champs home.
  8. Biloxi (24-5)– Resume VS 6A (14-4) Key 6A wins (Gulfport by 1, Gulfport by 9), 6A losses (Harrison Central by 11, Oak Grove by 18, Gulfport by 11, Murrah by 13), Other key wins (Minor (AL) by 8), They made it to the Big House and only lost to some very good 6A teams.
  9. Gulfport (26-7)– Resume VS 6A (11-6) Key 6A wins (Harrison Central by 2, Biloxi by 11, Meridian by 14), 6A losses (Biloxi by 1, Harrison Central by 5, Harrison Central by 3, Meridian by 19, Biloxi by 9), Other key wins (MRA by 10, Brother Martin (LA) by 10, Yazoo City by 12, Hattiesburg by 6, Fairhope (AL) by 7), Gulport had 6 losses, 1 to MRA who they turned around and beat, Biloxi twice who they also beat, Harrison Central twice who they also beat and Meridian who they also beat. You see the pattern there. They beat at least every team they played this season at least once. Too bad they had a couple key losses in there.
  10. Petal (17-8)– Resume VS 6A (8-6) Key 6A wins (Harrison Central by 4), 6A losses (Meridian by 6, Oak Grove by 35, Oak Grove by 12, Meridian by 16, Meridian by 17, Harrison Central by 4), Other key wins (Presbyterian Christian by 5, Laurel by 3, Laurel by 9, Hattiesburg by 3), A big win over Harrison Central. All 6A losses were to the heavy weights this year.
