Saltillo, MS
(B) Ripley Tigers 5-1 (4A Ripley, MS) 67
Smithville Seminoles 0-3 (1A Smithville, MS) 23
Notes: Ripley got a strong performance from LaBron Vance (6-1 ’22 F Ripley 23 pts 1 3’s 10-12 ft 11 reb 1 st 1 charge taken) to earn Player of the Game honors. His free-throw percentage was very impressive helping him rack up the double-double. Trell Vance (6-3 ’22 G Ripley 9 pts 7 reb 1 ast 2 st) provided a highlight reel finish over a Smithville defender. He’s only listed at 6-3 but his length makes him look much bigger.
The real story of the game for me was Smithville. Don’t let the score fool you. Was the game close? No, but it was a completely turned around Smithville team. The pressure traps out of zone mixtures was a much better look than seeing them the previous week. The effort and intensity was there but they are not at the right spot yet. They are massively improving though.

(B) Columbus Falcons 4-2 (5A Columbus, MS) 56
Center Hill Mustangs 4-1 (6A Olive Branch, MS) 52
Notes: Center Hill started out to a strong lead before Columbus fought hard getting back in the game. Willie Young (6-2 ’22 G/F Columbus 11 pts (7 in 4th qtr) 5-6 ft all in 4th qtr 3 reb 2 st 1 ast) was clutch in the final quarter to help hold off the mustangs. He scored 7 points and knocked down 5 of 6 free-throws to help hold the lead. Jaquarius “JJ” Williams (6-2 ’22 SG Columbus 10 pts 1 3’s 9 reb 2 ast 1 blk 4 st) used his athleticism and speed to post a solid night. One of the better match-ups of the day was between Tre Dismuke (6-2 ’22 G Columbus 19 pts 3-3 ft 2 reb 2 ast 5 st 1 charge taken) and Jhamal Ross (6-0 ’22 PG Center Hill 6 pts 1 3’s 8 reb 5 ast 2 st). Both of the college level prospects had solid games. Tre is a very smart and strong guard.
Ross is very stocky and was working on a triple-double for his team. Tanner Burcham (6-2 ’22 G/F Center Hill 16 pts 8 reb 3 ast 2 st) was a pleasant surprise. He was able to score around defenders and battled very hard down low.

(B) Okolona Chieftains 2-0 (1A Okolona, MS) 71
Corinth Warriors 2-2 (4A Corinth, MS) 67
Notes: Fred Randle (’24 G Okolona 18 pts 1 3’s 5-6 ft 3 reb 3 ast 4 st) was clutch at the end of the game to help hold of Corinth. Dailin Cooperwood (’22 PG Okolona 24 pts 2 3’s 7 reb 4 ast 1 blk 5 st) had a huge stat line going before fouling out early in the fourth quarter. He’s got size for a point and plays so smooth.
Andre Adams (6-3 ’22 G/F Corinth 23 pts 3 3’s 2-2 ft 4 reb 2 ast 2 st) does nothing but scores when he gets into the lane. He seems to always finish with either hand around defenders. Late in the game as Corinth was making a comeback attempt he stepped out and started draining three’s.

New Hope Lady Trojans 2-2 (5A Columbus, MS) 38
Notes: Zakiah Gwyn (’23 C Corinth 15 pts 14 reb 2 ast 4 st) was a dominant force for the Lady Warriors in this game. It was a basket if she got the ball down low.
Jada Jefferson (’23 SF New Hope 12 pts 4 reb 1 ast 1 blk 3 st) had a strong performance for New Hope in the losing effort.

(B) New Hope Trojans 4-0 (5A Columbus, MS) 72
Southaven Chargers 2-3 (6A Southaven, MS) 63
Notes: This was a very entertaining game. New Hope got a great performance for senior stud Caleb Parr (6-3 ’22 G New Hope 26 pts 2 3’s 6-7 ft 6 reb 4 ast 1 blk 2 st). Parr really turned it on in the fourth quarter scoring 10 points in the final frame. He was able to get any shot he needed to in the win. It was a very great match-up between Parr and Jonterious “JT” Chalmers (6-3 ’22 PG Southaven 25 pts 3 3’s 4-6 ft 4 reb 2 ast 5 st).
JT is just stupid good. He is a no-brainer D1 point and currently holds only a few juco offers. There is no reason why he shouldn’t be a top 10 player in the state. The only reason I think he is not is because of the location where he is from. He doesn’t attend a lot of the camps or events in Mississippi because he does all of that in Memphis. We need to give him the attention he deserves on this side of the state line. He chose to stay in the Sip and not run to a Memphis school. Another bright spot for Coach Wilson was Jeremiah Davis (6-4 ’22 G Southaven 11 pts 3 3’s 4 reb 1 ast 3 blk). He is long, tall and was knocking down the long balls.

(B) Saltillo Tigers 5-0 (5A Saltillo, MS) 76
Tishomingo County Braves 3-2 (4A Iuka, MS) 23
Notes: Breaking news! Dee Howell (5-10 ’22 G Olive Branch 13 pts 2 3’s 1 reb 6 ast 4 st 1 charge taken) and E.J. Fisk (’22 G Saltillo 2 pts 1 st) have been located on the bus in Tishomingo County. Why are they there you may ask? Coach Lauderdale told them not to leave Spence Coffman (6-1 ’22 G Tishomingo County 2 pts 6 reb 1 ast 1 st) alone. E.J. was face guarding Coffman the whole game and when he was taking breathers or out with a bloody face Dee stepped in and took his place. Fisk didn’t even play any offense at all because he was even playing defense on the offensive end face guarding Coffman. E.J. could’ve easily won the player of the game too but Dee had the offensive stats along with his defensive play. The future for Saltillo is bright with J.T. Beasley (6-3 ’24 F Saltillo 16 pts 5 reb 1 ast 3 st), Gunner Wesson (6-0’24 SG Saltillo 9 pts 1 3’s 6 reb 3 ast) and Demetrious Duffy (6-5 ’25 C Saltillo 10 pts 8 reb 1 blk 2 st). Beasley is electric and will be a future stud. Duffy is a big and strong post. Wesson is going to be a very dangerous guard down the road.
Why was Coffman being face guarded? He has been dropping 30 and 40 pieces on everybody Tish County has played. Howell and Fisk had him ordering of the kid menu on this night with a 2 piece. They just refused to let him touch the ball he was getting team attention when he did touch it. I can’t wait to see him play again because he looked like he could be another version of Tommy Murr. Murr is the all-time leading scorer in Alabama.
