Biggersville at Pine Grove Recap 12-9-21

Thursday December 9, 2021

From Pine Grove HS

Ripley, MS

(G) Biggersville Lady Lions (1A Corinth, MS) 64

Pine Grove Lady Panthers (2A Ripley, MS) 57

Notes: 1A take note, this Biggersville team is GOOD. Size, skill, depth shooters and quality players at every position. They were also missing a starter too. Championship level teams need a good point to run the show. Hannah Seago (5-9 ’23 PG Biggersville 25 pts 1 3’s 8-9 ft 4 reb 5 ast 1 charge taken) is that person. She has good size for a point that can distribute. She can also get buckets too when she needs to. Her handles are top notch. Post play is important too when it comes to getting a Gold Ball and Asia Stafford (6-1 ’23 F/C Biggersville 20 pts 8 reb 1 ast 2 blk) fills that role easily. She keeps the paint locked down and opens up the court for her teammates. This Biggersville team is also junior dominant so you could expect them to have a run at back to back championships.

Pine Grove is a tough team that never gives up. They were down 20 plus points and chipped away to cut the score to single digits. The Lady Panthers got hot behind the arc and started knocking down three’s in the second half. Ellie Fryar (5-3 ’23 G Pine Grove 20 pts 2 3’s 6 reb 4 ast 3 st) is a tough guard that played with heart and a lot of effort.

(B) Biggersville Lions (1A Corinth, MS) 68

Pine Grove Panthers (2A Ripley, MS) 57

Notes: Biggersville has a chance at a repeat this year. They are very good and deep. When I say deep, I mean 10 deep with no drop off in talent. Coach Little had the luxury of subbing 5 in and 5 out about every three minutes to keep his guys fresh and active. They get after you full court and bring the defensive heat the whole game. Biggersville has plenty of size and length which helps on the defensive end. Brooks Brand (6-2 ’22 G Biggersville 23 pts 5 3’s 4 reb 1 st) earned Player of the Game honors with his hot outside shooting. Dietrich Shugars (6-2 ’22 G Biggersville 12 pts 3 reb 1 ast 3 st) came off the bench as a defensive spark plug. He brought high energy with his defensive presence and easily scored buckets on the offensive end. Zae Davis (5-10 ’22 PG Biggersville 14 pts 2 reb 5 ast) has an automatic pull up jumper that he can get whenever he needs.

Pine Grove kept the game back and forth in the first half then Biggersville pulled away in the third quarter. Don’t let this loss fool you. Pine Grove is good and only got better with this loss. This game was a battle of the heavyweights. Carson Rowland (6-1 ’22 PG Pine Grove 20 pts 1 3’s 3 reb 5 ast 6 st 1 charge taken) did his thing. Jamas Cox (6-3 ’23 F Pine Grove 9 pts 1 3’s 6 reb 3 ast 2 blk 4 st 1 charge taken) had a solid game for the Panthers. Jack Hudson (6-0 ’23 G Pine Grove 11 pts 2 3’s 6 reb 2 ast 2 st) has improved a lot and he was already very good. He has become a major key on this team with his improved overall game.
