Saltillo Lady Tigers 7-18 (5A Saltillo, MS) 48
Notes: The home standing Lady Tigers cut the lead to 5 points with 3 minutes to go but that would be as close as they could get in the comeback attempt. Dukiaha Jones (’24 G West Point 20 pts (18 in 2nd half) 1 three 3-4 ft 7 reb 4 ast 3 st) really picked up the pace in the second half to earn Player of the Game honors. Malajae Robinson (’23 G West Point 16 pts 2 3’s 4-5 ft 3 reb 4 ast 1 blk 5 st) had a very steady game filling up the stat sheet. Terica Smith (’24 C West Point 12 pts 8 reb 2 ast 1 st 1 charge taken) was a big piece down low for the Lady Green Wave. Jasmine Steinman (’24 G Saltillo 14 pts (6 in 4th qtr) 3 reb 1 ast 5 st (4 in 4th qtr) played a key role for Saltillo in the comeback attempt. (B) New Hope Trojans 17-7 (5A Columbus, MS) 63
Columbus Falcons 9-13 (5A Columbus, MS) 54
Notes: New Hope started this game out strong with an 18-4 first quarter and it looked like we were in for a snooze fest. Columbus changed that in the second half. Columbus cut the game to within 2 with 2 minutes to go but New Hope prevailed to advance to the Tournament Championship Game. TJ Warren (6-2 ’26 G New Hope 21 pts (7 in 4th qtr) 3 3’s 8-11 ft (5-7 ft in 4th qtr) 5 reb 3 ast 4 st) stepped up big in the final frame to preserve the win. Warren is one of the top freshmen in the state and has exceptional court vision as a true point. Before it’s all said and done he could end up being the best player that Coach McBrayer has coached at New Hope. His body development will come over the next few years and he will be a force for high level coaches to check out. Issace Grady (6-4 ’24 G/F New Hope 21 pts (8 in 4th qtr) 1 three 4-5 ft (all in 4th qtr) 6 reb 2 st) also had a big fourth quarter in the win. Jakele Phillips (6-3 ’23 G Columbus 10 pts (all in 4th qtr) 11 reb 1 ast 2 st) was a bright spot for Columbus in the loss with his double-double.
