The basketball season is yet to officially begin, but it is almost time for jamborees across the state. In the northeastern portion of the Magnolia State, at Tishomingo County High School, is sophomore Kayson McNutt. McNutt is a 5’9” guard and returning starter of the varsity squad. McNutt has proven to be a leader on his team and to everyone when he steps onto the court.
McNutt was the only freshman to start on the varsity squad at Tishomingo County High School. He averaged 15 points per game and was selected as the TCHS Offensive Player of the Year. He was also selected by a unanimous vote to the Daily Corinthian All Area Division 1 – 4A Team.
This fairly young team has gained plenty of experience over the off season by hosting several summer games as well as traveling to Itawamba Community College and MRA Team Camp for games on the road. Throughout practice so far, Kayson has shown improvement since last season and should be a vital asset to this team. He is ready to take this team to another level with teammates (Senior) Ayden McDeavitt and (Junior) Chase Booker.
Kayson knows what it takes to be successful in this level of basketball and is hoping to instill that into his teammates this year. The Braves are coming off of a 4-22 season with a brutal schedule and several hiccups along the way. However, 3rd year head coach, Justin Parsons, is making adjustments and this team is hungry for some wins this winter.
The Braves will unofficially begin their season on October 28, at the TCHS Jamboree, facing off against Hickory Flat and Pine Grove. The Braves will officially begin their season on November 7th, at Alcorn Central.
