Memphis Super 80 Fall League

Memphis Super 80 Fall League

Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church

Memphis, TN

September 2, 2017

Eric “Cowboy” Robinson is putting on a Memphis fall league the next few Saturday in September at the Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church. It’s called the Super 80. I watched it for myself and it is SUPER. The action is competitive. The talent is some of the best in the country. There is plenty of high flying and heartbreak. I watched an overtime game with a buzzer beater and a double overtime game. All together, it was a 5 game schedule full of intensity. For those looking for an early fix of hoops action, this is the place to be. Admission is only $5 for all the action. Below will be a list of each team. Every player will not be able to attend each week but here is the teams when they make it. Notes will follow from this past Saturdays event.

Notes

Cameron Jones 6-6 2018 G Whitehaven HS (TN): Smart scorer. He didn’t have the best day but he showed major potential in spurts. He displayed a nice looking shot from long range. He used his size to back down the smaller guards trying to guard him. He took advantage of the matches he had. Huge upside as a lm talent.

Kelvin Allen 6-1 2018 G Olive Branch HS (MS): The sharp shooter for OB showed some bounce. He crashed the boards hard. I saw some improvement in his game. Was it enough to push him into the lm range? Not sure but it should push him to the top of the JUCO lists.

Chandler Lawson 6-9 2019 F East HS (TN): Chandler did his thing. He showed versatility with his game. He can grab the board and run the court or play in the paint. His defensive hustle was very good.

Antavion “Dude” Collum 6-8 2019 PG Tenn Prep Aademy HS (TN): I’ve been seeing where Dude has been advertised as the next big guard on twitter and I said, “Whatever.” Well, my opinion has been changed for me. A much slimmer and elusive Dude took the court. He played very well from end to end. His ball handling and passing were very good. He crashed the boards on both ends. He scored with ease around the basket. His outside shot was off but he made up for it in every other area. He is transforming into a serious hm target with all the work he’s put in.

Khalil Chaffin 7-3 2018 C Tenn Prep Academy HS (TN): The newly transplanted Memphian arrived the night before and didn’t waste any time hitting the court. He played lower minutes in his debut just getting accustomed to the Memphis way. He showed a little mobility when he did get on the court. He’s one I can’t wait to see down the road.

Shawn Cornelius 6-8 F/C Tenn Prep Academy HS (TN): Here was a pleasant surprise for me. He plays with an extremely high motor. He is a really good shot blocker. His defensive presence was felt all over the court. His length was bothersome and his speed was just as annoying to the ball handlers. He is the type of guy I like watching play. I could see him playing a big role for a lm+/mm.

Joe Cooper 6-0 2019 PG Olive Branch HS (MS): Joe, what you doing dropping 28 points. I didn’t know he could shoot and score like that. He was dropping 3’s all day in the comeback win. What I did know that he could do was the 13 dimes he dropped. His passing skills are top notch. I could see him at a mm- the way he played Saturday.

Rashe France 6-4 2018 F Mitchell HS (TN): His motor and effort were crazy high in this game. He has to play big for his team and he showed up with timely rebounds and tipped balls. He will be a great addition for Mitchell High.

Antonio Thomas 6-1 2019 PG Ridgeway HS (TN): A very commanding guard. He plays hard and is one of the toughest, hard-nosed players on the court. He played all-out on the defensive end.

Temarjay Allen 5-11 2018 PG Raleigh Egypt HS (TN): He knocked down several 3’s during the game to help his teams offensive cause. On the defensive end, he was so pesky and all over the place. He was surprising with double-teams and dropping in the passing lanes. He was a big spark plug in his teams win.

Elliot Brooks II PCA HS (TN): He played with some major heart. His game was the double OT game and he left  everything he had on the court.

Calvin Temple 6-0 2019 G ???HS (TN): Smooth guard. He played smart and hard but still looked as smooth as ever. He had to score a little more than he probably is used to but he showed he can do it. His passing was on point though. One of the silkiest, smooth passers in MS……. I mean TN.

Alex Williamson 6-2 2018 G Olive Branch HS (MS): I said, “He’s from where?” Yep another OB kid. His shot didn’t fall but it looks really good from behind the arc. He’s a big bodied, strong guard that attacks the rim hard. He had him a really good highlight reel dunk.

Kennedy Chandler 5-11 2021 PG Brearcrest HS (TN): This guy can play. He’s a great ball handler and a really good passer. His IQ is so far beyond his years. He played all out for his team. He can score around the lane and shoot the long ball.

Carlos Sandifer 5-11 2018 PG Houston HS (TN): I don’t know how many points he had but it was a lot. He got hot from behind the arc and lit it up. Seemed like he probably had around 8 3’s.

Garret Golday 6-7 2018 PF Arlington HS (TN): Big man showed some range knocked down a couple 3’s. He rebounded very well and competed for loose balls. The most impressive thing I saw about his game was his defense. Several of the people from the other team tried to switch up the match ups and take him one-on-one. Surprisingly, it didn’t work. He kept the faster ones at bay with his lateral movement and he used his strength to stop the bigger guys. They would challenge him for a couple tries then they would give up. A lm prospect that played solid.

Malik Riddle 6-4 2018 SG Rossville Christian HS (TN): There was not s shortage of high flying moves when he was in the game. He even tried a Jordan like dunk from way out. He played hard and crashed the boards on both ends.

Shemar Johnson 5-9 2019 G Bartlett HS (TN): Recently found out he had a 4.40 GPA to go with his balling skills. He scored 25 points and dished out 5 assist as the team leader. He just flat out makes shots. He makes plays that count too. That includes the game winning three. 2 weeks in a row watching him play and another impressive performance. He should catch fire in recruiting this season, especially from high academic schools.

Jhalen Hayes 6-2 2019 F Central HS (TN): Lights out shooter with range. He has really long range too.

Christyle Garner 5-11 2018 G/F White Station HS (TN): He is a serious competitor. He fought hard on the defensive end. He was all over with his defensive presence.

Maurice Dickson 6-6 2018 G/F Grad Academy HS (TN): He has a great mixture of size and range on his outside shot. He had no problem shooting well behind the line at a high percentage.
