November 12th-18th Report

November 12th-18th Report

This report includes notes from November 12th-18th. Included in this will be Smithville at Tupelo Christian Prep, J.Z. George Tournament and Forest at Kosciusko (from the previous week watched on MaxSouthSports). I apologize that my week was cut short due to getting sick. My plans were to attend the Orsmond Jordan Classic at Forrest Hill and the Kosciusko Shootout. The third picture is one of the best hospitality items I’ve had in a long time. It was turnip green soup. Greens, peas, beans and sausage all in one soup. It was amazing. Thanks to J.Z. George for providing their wonderful hospitality room.

Player Notes

2018

Decoreyon “Corey” Small 5-11 PG Montgomery County HS (Kilmichael): 30 pts, 4 ast (could’ve been 10), 2 reb, 5 st vs Winona. He was great at getting in the lane and finding the open man. He had 4 assist and it could’ve been 10 if his guys would’ve connected on their baskets. He played really good off-ball and help side defense. He has turned into a viable JUCO option and needs to be checked out.

Tavares “Pudd” Townsend 5-11 G Winona HS (Winona): 32 pts, 11-17 fg, 5-7 3’s, 2 reb, 4 st vs Montgomery County. He was hot, super hot. He had the play of the night with a dribble, jab step, cross over and step back three with the foul. He can shoot and score around the basket too. Anyone looking for a developing scorer needs to check him out for post grads and JUCO’s.

Xzayvion “Zay” Hill 6-6 C J.Z. George HS (Greenwood): 6 pts (all in 2nd half), 8 reb (7 in 2nd half), 4 blks (3 in 2nd half) vs Durant. His teammates started playing patient in the second half and started giving him the ball. He is a nice lefty that can create his own shot around the basket. He plays solid defense and contest shots. He is a great look for post grads to develop for the next level.

Darius Sharkey 6-4 F Durant HS (Durant): 12 pts, 4-7 fg, 4-5 ft, 10 reb, 3 charges taken vs J.Z. George. He rebounds on both ends of the court. He is a great on ball and off ball defender. He is efficient on the offensive end. His best stat to me was the 3 charges taken. He needs to be looked at by D3, JUCO and post grads this season.

2019

Terry Skinner 6-2 SG Kosciusko HS (Kosciusko): 21 pts, 7 3’s, 9 reb, 3 ast, 4 st vs Forest. At one point in the game, Terry had outscored the Bearcats all by himself. He was on fire and seemed to be in the right spots at the right time. He rebounded and was in good positions on steals.

2020

Jackson Mills 6-1 G/F Tupelo Christian Prep HS (Tupelo): 8 pts, 14 reb, 1 blk vs Smithville. He’s a very solid and fundamental player. He has a very high basketball IQ. He’s a rebounding magician. He understands english and angles from shots coming off the glass and rim. He always positions himself in the spot for offensive and defensive boards.

Ralph Tyes 6-1 G Durant HS (Durant): 10 pts, 5-8 fg, 3 reb, 5 ast, 3 st vs J.Z. George. He has some great potential if he keeps working. His game reminds me a little bit of Brian Halums at this age. He can drive and kick to find the open man. He is awesome at hitting the swing pass for the open shot. He played steady defense and scored only when he needed to.

Calvin Banks 6-0 G Kosciusko HS (Kosciusko): 14 pts, 2 3’s, 11 reb, 5 ast vs Forest. Calvin made the best of the Forest zone and played an all around game. He found the right outside shots and attacked the zone from the high post with passes and open shots. He rebounded hard on both ends. His on ball defense was with high intensity. Calvin showed why he is one of the top 2020’s in the state by looking like a team leader from the tip of the game.

2021

Jackson Harris 5-8 PG Tupelo Christian Prep HS (Shannon): 11 pts (9 in 4th qtr), 3 3’s vs Smithville. He is a composed ball handler that sets up his teammates. He rebounds hard. He is a good shooter from outside. He nailed 3 3’s in the 4th quarter going down the stretch of the game.

Sean Merritt 6-5 C Winona HS (Winona): 4 pts, 3 reb vs Montgomery County. Here is some size with great potential. Keep an eye out for him as he develops into a monster player.

Team Notes

Smithville Seminoles: A key and amazing fact for Smithville in their win over TCPS. During crunch time, Coach Coln was playing mostly freshmen and a sophomore. These freshmen were Aden Casey, Blake Williams (11 pts), Khieri Standifer (10 pts) and the sophomore was Brian Coxey (5-10 G 21 pts, 5 3’s, 4-5 ft).
