MAIS Overall Tournament First Round Results and Report

#23, #1 Madison Ridgeland Academy 31-5 (AAAA-D1 #1 Madison) 75
#100, #2 St. Joseph 18-6 (AA #3 Greenville) 52
MRA proved to be too deep for St. Joseph. Braxton Eubanks (6-4 ’18 F MRA 22 pts 10-13 fg 10 reb 3 ast) provided a double-double. He has good size and is as solid of a player that you will find. Trey Fort (6-3 ’19 SG MRA 20 pts 6-11 fg 3 3’s 5-5 ft 2 reb 2 ast) looks like he is starting to grow some. He shot the ball really well. St. Joseph was paced by Jonathan “JJ” Jordan (5-11 ’18 G St. Joseph 16 pts 3 3’s 6 reb 2 ast 2 st). I’ve had the pleasure of watching JJ since he was killing it back in the Leland days and his jumper is still just as smooth as ever. He is a smooth ball handler and has one of the purest shots in the state. Dillon Johnson (5-10 ’20 G St. Joseph 13 pts 4-5 ft 3 reb) is a nice shooter and a good one to keep an eye on down the road. He’s not going to be alone either. His little brother, Cedric Moore (5-9 ’23 G St. Joseph) got in on the action as well.

#68, #3 Parklane Academy 22-9 (AAAA-D1 #3 McComb) 47
Riverdale Academy 24-7 (A #1 Coushatta, LA) 36
Parklane defeated Riverdale with a good mixture of senior leadership. Brandt Watson (6-0’18 F Parklane 6 pts 8 reb 4 ast 2 st) earned Player of the Game honors not necessarily on his numbers but the hustle and effort he played with. He was all over the court and floor. He did a little bit of everything. Newlon Gillihan (6-4 ’18 F Parklane 18 pts 6-7 ft 10 reb 3 blk) played very solid. He is a strong, mobile post that rebounds hard. Tyler Ramshur (6-4 ’18 SG Parklane 8 pts 2 3’s 3 reb 2 ast 3 st) is a long 2 that can shoot the ball well. He also has the ability to put the ball on the floor and get to the rack. Zhavian Green (6-2 ’18 G Parklane 7 pts 9 reb 3 ast 2 st) is another strong bodied shooter that can get into the paint and find the open man.

#64, #2 Jackson Academy 18-12 (AAAA-D1 #2 Jackson) 49
#66, #1 Hillcrest Christian 25-8 (AAA #2 Jackson) 35
Jackson Academy pulled out the victory in an extremely physical game. Michael Barber (6-8 ’18 G/F Jackson Academy 17 pts) fought his way to Player of the Game honors. Johnny Magee (6-5 ’19 PF Hillcrest 2 pts) only scored one bucket but his defense that he played on Barber is worth mentioning. He held Barber to 17 points and that is an impressive feat. Harrison Carr (5-10 ’20 SG Hillcrest 9 pts 2 3’s) had a solid performance in the loss. Hillcrest has a team full of talented juniors and sophomores. They will be a team to deal with next season.
