Lighthouse Thanksgiving Classic
From Corinth HS
Corinth, MS
(B) Saltillo Tigers 5-0 (5A Saltillo, MS) 61
Potts Camp Cardinals 5-2 (1A Potts Camp, MS) 58
Notes: Wow what an opening 9 AM game. This game could’ve been the prime time game at most events. You have the potential 1A champion and the big dog in Northeast MS. It was very entertaining. Potts Camp had bus trouble and showed up just in time to start the game. It took them about 6 minutes in to really start playing and at that point Saltillo had an 18-4 lead. The Cardinals overcame this slow start to come back and nearly won it. Big Mitchell Saulsberry (6-5 ’21 G/F Potts Camp) had a very solid game. Kylan Conners (6-2 ’19 G Potts Camp) had a good showing for the Cardinals also. TJ Hannah (6-5 ’20 F Saltillo) added a double-double for Saltillo but the were lifted by Big Shot Smurf for the win. Calvin “Smurf” Harris (6-2 ’19 G/F Saltillo) might’ve had the best individual performance of the entire tournament with his near triple-double.

(B) Center Hill Mustangs 6-0 (5A Olive Branch, MS) 62
Bearden Bulldogs 4-2 (AAA Knoxville, TN) 49
Notes: Respect the Hill. Center Hill is for real. There is way too many things to say about this team and not enough time or space to do so. They are legit. Calvin Temple (6-1 ’19 G Center Hill) is on a mission this year since he is finally being allowed to play in the MHSAA ranks. Kaeden Laws (6-4 ’21 G/F Center Hill) looks much better as a player with his added offensive dimensions. He could end up being the not-so-secret weapon for the Stangs this year. Decorian Payton (6-5 ’20 C Center Hill) is doing his thing this year and playing solid. The secret weapon is Kevin Henry (6-2 ’19 G/F Center Hill). “Henry is the glue to the team. He can do just about everything. He is Mr. Hustle, all he wants to do is win. His main priority is stopping the other teams best player.” These are words from Coach Mealer and I couldn’t have described him better myself. He is the perfect garbage man and probably the most selfless player in the state. He has skill too but you will rarely see it because he defers so well. Then you have Coach Mealer. He is one of the best Coaches in Mississippi. He excels in the X’s and O’s as well as the motivational side too.

Wesley Christian Circuit Riders 6-3 (Allen, KY) 68
Notes: Very good win by West Oaks to recover from the previous days loss. Wesley Christian walked away from Corinth with two losses but they are a very good and talented team. Coach Dave Meddings will have his guys right as the season goes along. Puoch Puoch (6-8 ’19 G Wesley Christian) had a very good weekend and should see a huge rise in his recruitment.

Sacred Heart Knights 2-3 (II-A Jackson, TN) 52
Notes: This was a huge win for Corinth. I like to pride myself in knowing about all the great teams in the south or even country for that matter. Sacred Heart got by me somehow. They have 3 very good players. Harris Barker (6-4 ’19 G/F Sacred Heart) has size and can shoot. Tarre’q Williams (6-5 ’19 G Sacred Heart) is a solid all-around player. Nana Malik (6-10 ’19 C Sacred Heart) is a dominant beast down low. I would really like to try and catch them again this season.
