November 26-December 1 Report

November 26-December 1 Report

The stats listed are unofficial but are close to what the players accomplished on the court (mostly because I run my mouth too much and don’t pay the closest attention the entire game).

Tremont Eagles 3-4 (1A Tremont, MS) 24

MS #163 1A #15

Notes: Gary Hoskins (6-7 ’19 C Itawamba) was a force down low for the Indians. Manuel Prates (6-3 ’20 G Tremont) is a very solid guard for Tremont.

MS #119 3A #17

Belmont Cardinals 2-3 (3A Belmont, MS) 45

MS #98 3A #12

Notes: Mantachie is a very good shooting team and that includes free-throws. They connected on 12 of 14 free-throws to help get the victory. Carson Burns (5-11 ’19 G Mantachie) had a very good all-around game showed solid leadership for the Mustangs. Avery Kuykendall (5-8 ’21 PG Belmont) looks like a 10th grade version of Coach Guy Gardner on the court. Wait a second, Kuykendall? That is also a famous name around Belmont. He does have some big-time basketball in his blood so he’ll be a good one to keep an eye on over the next few years.

Gentry vs Ruleville Central

From Ruleville Central HS

Ruleville, MS

(B) Gentry Rams 7-3 (4A Indianola, MS) 66

MS #45 4A #10

Ruleville Central Tigers 2-3 (3A Ruleville, MS) 48

MS #164 3A #23

Notes: Gentry is back to playing Gentry defense. Darrius “Chip” Clark (6-5 ’19 G/F Gentry) is getting better and is really looking impressive with his guard skills. Robert Bell (6-2 ’19 F Gentry) looked solid and should be looked at and considered for the next level. Joshujuan Townsend (6-0 ’20 G Gentry) is a strong guard that provides bench help. Deandre Brisco (5-7 ’22 G Gentry) is playing big, productive minutes as a freshman with his heart and hustle. Gentry is back in the mix with the 4A north run to Jackson. Michael Barnes (’20 F Ruleville) had a double-double. Joseph Perez (6-1 ’20 SF Ruleville) will be one to keep an eye on to see how he develops going into next year for next level coaches. He has a good mid-range jumper and a strong body. Ty’Rikus Williams (6-5 ’21 F/C Ruleville) has a super high motor, size and length. He also has time to develop into a next level guy.

Red Hills Showdown

From Winston Academy HS

Louisville, MS

(B) Winston Academy Patriots 9-2 (AAA Louisville, MS) 55

MS #61 AAA #2

Nanih Waiya Warriors 2-3 (1A Louisville, MS) 36

MS #162 1A #14

Notes: Winston Academy has an internal alarm and it doesn’t go off until about 11:30. That is two early morning games that I’ve seen where they didn’t show up or didn’t show up at tip-off. When they did finally decide to show up, they did it in a big way. Several players were in contention for Player of the Game including the recipient, Blake Peterson (6-2 ’19 G/F Winston Academy). Peterson was a block machine and he altered as many shots as he blocked. Nash Vanlandingham (5-10 ’19 F Winston Academy) posted a double-double. Collin Mills (6-0 ’19 G Winston Academy) got in early foul trouble which kept him from getting big stats. He is for sure the spark plug to the team. Hoyt Hendrix (6-1 ’19 F Winston Academy) had a very productive game across the board also.

(B) Hillcrest Christian Cougars 3-3 (AAA Jackson, MS) 47

MS #184 AAA #6

East Webster Wolverines 1-2 (2A Maben, MS) 44

Notes: Hillcrest has a good mixture of experienced players to go along with some young studs. Donovan Givens (6-6 ’19 G/F Hillcrest Christian) notched a double-double and looked very fluid on the court. The long and lanky wing needs to be looked at by next level coaches as soon as possible. As far as the young studs, it doesn’t get any better than Carter Mullins (6-2 ’24 PG Hillcrest Christian). Yes, that’s right, ’24. He’s a 7th grader that is 6-2 and can run point. He is going to be a big time player and could end up being a national level kid. Carrin Townsend (5-9 ’19 G East Webster) caught my eye for East Webster with his hard play and hustle.
