2019 Lighthouse Thanksgiving Classic
Day 2 Report
The stats are provided by Blake Long and his Northeast MS CC crew. They are the best in the business at keeping stats and can’t be thanked enough for the great job that they do.
Lighthouse Thanksgiving Classic
Friday November 30, 2019
From Corinth HS
Corinth, MS
(B) Sparkman Senators 6-4 (7A Harvest, AL) 73
AL #29, 7A #10
Yazoo County Panthers 4-2 (3A Yazoo City, MS) 63
MS #30, 3A #5
Notes: Wow what a game for a 9 AM starter. This would’ve been the prime time main event in most classics. Sparkman is so young and deep. They are a team to watch down the road. Yazoo County lost a star player and a star coach but retooled nicely to be a dangerous team in 3A this year. Yazoo County got behind early and continued to fight to make it a close game.

Notes: One of the best kept secrets in the state, Hunter Stacy (6-3 ’20 G Biggersville 35 pts 14-25 fg 2 3’s 11 reb) stepped up on the big stage and carried Biggersville to the win. I was also impressed with the growth and improvement of Brooks Brand (6-1 ’22 G Biggersville 12 pts 2 3’s 4 reb 8 ast).

MS #7, 2A #1
Lindsay Lane Lions 5-3 (1A Athens, AL) 79
AL #121, 1A #8
Notes: You can ask Vince, I had this game circled as my dream match-up ever since the schedule come out. The leading scorer in the country against one of the best defensive masterminds in Mississippi. It didn’t disappoint at all. We had Tommy Murr (6-1 ’20 G Lindsay Lane (AL) 46 pts 15-27 fg 4 3’s 12-13 ft 6 reb 1 ast 2 st) becoming the all-time leading scorer in Alabama high school basketball history. We also had Tommy tying the Lighthouse Classic scoring record with his 46 points. How about we end it with a game winner. Yep, we had that too with Carson Fitzsimmons (6-2 ’20 G/F New Site 20 pts 10-12 fg 8 reb 1 ast 1 blk 1 st) getting the game winning rebound and put-back. Enough praise can’t be given to Tommy Murr. Lipscomb is getting a great player and an even better person. And o yeah, New Site is really good too. They are way better than I expected them to be after losing a couple key transfers. They will make some serious noise in 2A this year.

Notes: Coach Zach Farrell and his Hamilton Heights Hawks walked away with their third Lighthouse Classic Challenge Trophy. Samson Ruzhentsev (6-7 ’20 G/F Hamilton Heights 18 pts 2 3’s 16 reb 5 ast 1 st) is so fun to watch. He dominates the games in so many ways. The future pro has made Mississippi his home turf in his game here.

Notes: Every year I find several guys that are extremely underrated. Keshawn Murphy (6-9 ’21 F Ramsay 20 pts 1 3’s 10 reb 1 ast) is that guy this year. He can do a little bit of everything on the court. He could eventually be a top 40 nationally ranked player in his class.
