Magnolia Hoops
Doc Vandiver Report
December 7-8, 2019
From Baldwyn HS
Baldwyn, MS
The stats listed are unofficial but are close to what the players accomplished on the court (mostly because I run my mouth too much and don’t pay the closest attention the entire game). The stats used are based on the highest numbers from what I keep, the score book has or stats listed on MaxPreps.
How do you get on the Magnolia Hoops Report? I put players on here that catch my eye or have a combined stat total of ten. Catching my eye could be leadership from the bench, winning the game or just hard play. Combined stat line of ten can be in any form. It’s doesn’t have to be points only. It can be any of the stats added up to make double-digits.
The Magnolia Hoops Player of the Game award goes to the player that affects the game the most for the winning team. The Katie Roberts Photography Senior Snapshot is the senior that either had the best stat line or one that next level coaches need to be aware of.
The Magnolia Hoops Head of the Class is the player with the best stat line by grade. The Magnolia Hoops Starting Five is the top five players with the best stat line for the entire day. The Magnolia Hoops Head Coach is the Coach that did the best job with their team. The Katie Roberts Photography Senior Squad is the top five seniors with the best stat lines. The Magnolia Hoops Best Game is either the best or most interesting game of the day. The Magnolia Hoops Top Five Teams is the best teams on this day and not necessarily the entire year.

Tupelo Christian Prep Eagles 4-7 (1A Belden, MS) 51
MS #179, 1A #20
Notes: TCPS played hard and Jackson Mills (6-0 ’20 G/F TCPS 21 pts 3 3’s 9 reb 2 ast 4 st) had a very good game in the losing effort. Pine Grove is a team that I was a little wrong on. They are pretty good. The mix of good young players in Carson Rowland (5-10 ’22 PG Pine Grove 9 pts 5-6 ft 2 reb 5 ast), Jack Hudson (’23 G Pine Grove 15 pts 5-9 fg 5 3’s 7 reb 2 ast 1 st 1 blk) and Keaton Wilkerson (’23 G Pine Grove 8 pts 3-5 fg 2 3’s 4 reb 2 ast 1 st) with veteran Mason Bullock (’20 G Pine Grove 11 pts 4-8 fg 3 3’s 2 reb 2 ast 1 st) and Falkner transfer Cade Wilder (’20 F Pine Grove 5 pts 7 reb 1 ast) give Coach Walker plenty of offensive options. Don’t be surprised if the hot-shooting Panthers pull a couple upsets in the playoffs this year.

Notes: I usually don’t go this route but this amazing game could’ve been so much better. Shoes, you would’ve left. In fact, several college coaches mentally checked out because the ref’s had a huge impact on this game. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for taking charges but nearly 30 called charges in this game. Hunter Stacy (6-3 ’20 G Biggersville 8 pts 1 3’s 3-3 ft 3 reb) even fouled out with 5 charges. Jamarion Walker (6-1 ’20 G/F Shaw 12 pts 4 reb 2 st), the opposing star for Shaw, fouled out early too. It’s bad for the next level coaches that drove 6 hours to see these two play and they only got a couple minutes of each. Other than that, it was an amazing game. Shaw came a long way and they gave Biggersville everything they wanted and more. Te’lick Barnett (6-2 ’20 G Biggersville 34 pts (24 in 4th qtr and ot’s) 13 made ft 1 3’s 8 reb 2 st) ended up being the difference with his fourth quarter and overtime play.
