Cleveland Central at Pontotoc Recap 11-10-22

Thursday November 10, 2022

From Pontotoc HS

Pontotoc, MS

(G) Pontotoc Lady Warriors (4A Pontotoc, MS) 53

Cleveland Central Lady Wolves (5A Cleveland, MS) 27

Notes: Pontotoc had a lot of stat fillers and that’s because Coach Heard plays 10 players like starters. He subbed them out every couple plays trying to keep his players rested for the high tempo full-court defense. They played really aggressive in the full court defensive set. I can see any one of his ten girls coming away with player of the game honors on any given night but tonight it was Alayna Ball (5-8 ’24 F Pontotc 20 pts (13 in 3rd qtr) 4 3’s (3 in 3rd qtr) 8 reb 2 ast 1 st). She used a big third quarter surge to push her ahead for the Player of the Game honors. Pontotoc has a good variety of seniors and younger players which will keep them in the mix the next several years. Cleveland Central has a bright future ahead with some developing juniors and sophomores.

(B) Pontotoc Warriors (4A Pontotoc, MS) 71

Cleveland Central Wolves (5A Cleveland, MS) 50

Notes: Coach Tipler had his guys ready to run and gun from the tip. Tyler Shephard (6-1 ’23 G Pontotoc 20 pts 6 ft made 2 3’s 10 reb 6 ast 2 blk 3 st) is a crazy athlete and he displayed his all around skills with maximum effort. Zane Tipler (5-7 ’23 G Pontotoc 15 pts 5-6 ft 7 reb 3 ast 3 st) ran the point and controlled the tempo for the Warriors. Adin Johnson (’23 G Pontotoc 15 pts (11 in 3rd qtr) 3 3’s (all in 3rd qtr) 4 reb 2 ast 3 st) was a big spark coming off the bench. The Pontotoc team is a run and gun, three and d gritty team that will make some noise in 4A this year. Coach Berryhill and his Wolves are a year away from making a big push in 5A. He has a team full of potential with juniors and sophomores. They have a good mixture of size, length and athleticism with guards, wings and bigs. They have a chance to steal a couple tough playoff games this year but next year they won’t be a secret.
