From New Hope HS

Columbus, MS

(B) Amory Panthers (3A Amory, MS) 55

Pine Grove Panthers (2A Ripley, MS) 45

Notes: Amory was able to hold off the pesky Pine Grove Panthers with a well rounded attack. Amare Brown (6-0 ’23 G Amory 17 pts 3 3’s 3 reb 2 ast 2 st) earned Player of the Game honors in the win. Keaton Wilkerson (’23 G Pine Grove 18 pts 4 3’s 3 reb 3 ast 1 charge taken) had a strong performance for the Grovers. Pine Grove looked very impressive in the loss and far exceeded what my expectations were going into this season for the defending 2A Champs. They were also playing with a key piece missing in Jack Hudson (’23 G Pine Grove).

(B) Tupelo Golden Wave (6A Tupelo, MS) 89

Hamilton Heights Christian Academy Hawks (Chattanooga, TN) 88

Notes: Tupelo mounted a huge comeback to get the victory over the national power Hamilton Heights Hawks. His heart and will to win were evident in the final frame. A much improved Gavin Shannon (6-6 ’23 G Tupelo 28 pts 3 3’s 11-14 ft 8 reb 3 ast 1 blk 1 st 1 charge taken) hit that next level in this game and really impressed me. He looked like the best player to touch the court the entire day. Jordann Dumont 6-8 G/F 25 pts 6 3’s 3-4 ft 10 reb 5 ast) had a big double-double for Coach Cook and the Hawks.
