(G) Pontotoc Lady Warriors (4A Pontotoc, MS) 59

Desoto Central Lady Jaguars (6A Southaven, MS) 43

Notes: In a previous report I stated that Pontotoc was pretty good. I still stand by that and I also said that any of the ten players that Coach Heard plays could get Player of the Game. That was true this game as well as Sadie Stegall (5-9 ’23 F Pontotoc 13 pts 1 three 2 reb 2 ast) earned MVP honors. Molly Sansing (5-6 ’23 G Pontotoc 13 pts 2 3’s 3-4 ft 1 reb 1 ast 1 st 1 charge taken) could’ve easily got the award with her great play. Thailan Payne (’23 F/C Desoto Central 9 pts 8 reb) played hard and produced a near double-double for the Lady Jaguars.

(G) Leake Academy Lady Rebels (MAIS 5A Madden, MS) 72

Biggersville Lady Lions (1A Corinth, MS) 57

Notes: Now this was a fun game. Maybe not for fans from Alcorn county way but it was fun. Leake Academy is a fun team to watch. They crash the offensive boards hard. They also shoot the ball very well too. So well that they hit 16 teams as a team. Morgan Freeny (’23 SG Leake Academy 19 pts 5 3’s 2-2 ft 3 reb 3 ast 2 st) nailed 5 of the 16 three’s. Miriam Prince (5-8 ’23 G Leake Academy 15 pts 3 3’s 2-2 ft 2 reb 2 ast 1 blk 1 st) and Emeri Warren (’23 F Leake Academy 13 pts 3 3’s 5 reb 3 ast) combined for 6 more of them. Don’t let this score fool you. Biggersville is still a very good team that has a chance to run away with the 1A title. They have potentially the best starting 5 in 1A with some solid bench players.

(G) North Pontotoc Lady Vikings (4A Ecru, MS) 47

Nettleton Lady Tigers (3A Nettleton, MS) 41

Notes: The host came away with a solid win after the big game from Gracie Corley (’23 G North Pontotoc 21 pts 2 3’s 9 reb 3 ast 7 st 1 blk 1 charge taken). Corley is a big time competitor that can play both guard spots. She could’ve easily walked away with 7 or 8 assists if some shots had fallen. Coach Browning has improved this team a lot from last season and they might have a chance to make a little run in the playoffs. Nettleton has a bright future with some very nice juniors. Aaliyah Harris (6-2 ’24 C Nettleton 14 pts 9 reb 5 blk 5 st) needs to be seen by next level coaches.

(G) Walnut Lady Wildcats (2A Walnut, MS) 70

Delta Academy Lady Raiders (MAIS 2A Marks, MS) 33

Notes: For Walnut, Madi Kate Vuncannon (5-10 ’23 G Walnut 22 pts 3 3’s 3-3 ft 10 reb 9 ast 6 st) will have a blow up and nearly unstoppable season. She had a near triple-double and was close to even having a quadruple-double. What most people don’t know about Walnut is the great freshmen they have hitting the court. Henlee Sisco (5-6 ’26 G Walnut 8 pts 3 reb 1 ast 2 st), Kaylee Estes (5-10 ’26 F/C Walnut 8 pts 1 three 6 reb 1 st), Allie Jackson (5-6 ’26 G Walnut 11 pts 1 three 4 reb 1 st) and Josie Meeks (5-5 ’26 Walnut 2 reb 3 ast) combined for 27 points and 15 rebounds. Madyson Parsons (’24 G/F Delta Academy 14 pts 1 three 6 reb 3 ast 2 blk 3 st) was a good surprise for Coach Dailey and his Lady Raiders.

(G) Corinth Lady Warriors (4A Corinth, MS) 50

Pine Grove Lady Panthers (2A Ripley, MS) 41

Notes: Corinth seniors Zakiah Gwyn (’23 C Corinth 12 pts 6-7 ft 5 reb 4 ast 2 blk 2 st) and Lazoya Howard (5-3 ’23 G/F Corinth 14 pts 1 three 5-6 ft 5 reb 2 st) finished of the night-cap with solid games to help the Lady Warriors get the win. Pine Grove kept it interesting until the very end with a gutsy performance. They crashed the boards hard against a much larger team and used the long ball to stay in the game.
