The BIGG Classic Recap 12-10-22

Saturday December 10, 2022

From Biggersville HS

Corinth, MS

(B) Desoto Central Jaguars 6-5 (6A Southaven, MS) 60

McNairy Central Bobcats 4-2 (3A Selmer, TN) 55

Notes: KJ Patrick (5-11 ’25 PG Desoto Central 11 pts 1 three 1 reb 2 st) ran his team smoothly to earn Most Outstanding Player. Bob Dickson Jr. (6-7 ’25 C Desoto Central 9 pts 11 reb 2 ast 4 blk 1 st) controlled the paint to earn the Player of the Game award. I really like this DC team. Coach Orman has this team looking different this year. He can play several different lineups with several bigs or athletic guards.

Notes: Pacey Matthews (6-3 ’24 F South Pontotoc 13 pts (11 in 1st qtr) 5-5 ft 6 reb) snagged the Player of the game honors in limited minutes. Coach Vandiver has a deep squad with his 5 in and 5 out subs. He is playing his lineups to perfection and it is showing with their record. Tre Gunn (6-1 ’24 G Biggersville 13 pts 2-2 ft 5 reb 1 ast 2 st 2 charges taken) helped Biggersville slip by a good New hope team. Biggersville has a really good chance of bringing another gold ball back to Northeast Mississippi. (B) Olive Branch Conquistadors 7-1 (6A Olive Branch, MS) 71

Booneville Blue Devils 7-2 (3A Booneville, MS) 59

Notes: The last time I saw OB play I didn’t really like the way they were just running and jacking shots up. After seeing them again I have a better understanding of how they are playing and I like it. They run the fast break and get up plenty of shots. This fits the strength of the team and all of the guards. They played so fast I probably missed a lot of stats for them. Jaylyn Tyler (6-0 ’24 G Olive Branch 20 pts (14 in 2nd half) 1 three 5-6 ft 2 reb 1 ast 3 st) continues to be the solid go to scorer when not running and jacking. Booneville got a huge effort from Kedrick Simmons (6-6 ’25 G/F Booneville 25 pts 7-7 ft 3 3’s 9 reb 3 ast 1 blk 3 st). The long guard keep developing into a D1 prospect. Booneville is a solid team and should be the favorite in 3A.

Notes: Southaven started the gameblowing Saltillo out then Coach Lauderdale got them fired up to finally take the lead with 3:03 remaining in the game. It would then be a back and forth contest until Rodarius Donley (6-0 ’24 G Southaven 38 pts 5 3’s 5-5 ft 4 reb 4 st) grabbed a rebound and then hit the game winning put back. Demetrius Duffy (6-6 ’25 C Saltillo C 25 pts (18 in 2nd half) 7-10 ft 15 reb (10 in 2nd half) 2 ast 2 blk 3 st) posted a big double-double in the second half alone to help get the Tigers back in the game.
