Jack Flynn Classic Video Highlights

Special thanks go out to Gerald Snider, Austin Roberts and Garrett King for videoing, keeping stats and contributing to this report.

Notes

Rosa Fort Lions

Warren Byrd 6-2 2018 PG 3 pts, 8 reb, 2 st: The MagnoliaHoops Player of the Game with only 3 pts? Sometimes you have to go by the unmeasurables. He is a very athletic and strong guard. His hustle earned him Player of the Game honors.

Grenada Chargers

Christian Cain 6-2 2018 G 23 pts, 3 3’s, 5 reb, 3 blk: A very smooth guard that can get to the rim anytime he needs to or can get a pull up j with ease. His game is very comparable to Jarkel Joiner from Oxford. His recruiting will pick up this season when he gets the looks. One of the underrated players in the state.

Christian Cain Video Highlights

Ripley Tigers

Ripley moved the ball very well as a team and played all over the court on defense.

Dewayne Cox 6-1 2017 G 31 pts, 9-14 ft, 2 blk, 7 st: D1 Coaches need to take notice. He’s on the rise. He scored with ease and was all over the place on defense. Key free throws in the clutch to help seal the win.

Desoto Central Jaguars

Desoto Central played amazing defense on Cox. Wait, what? But he had 31 pts. Yeah, I know. Their defense was as good as you can play on him.

Trae Burcham 6-0 2017 SG 25 pts, 10-11 ft, 3 3’s, 2 st, 17 pts in 2nd half: Trae played his heart out in this game and he did all the little stuff that nobody watches. You watch and say he face guarded Cox and give up 31. He played amazing defense on him. Well he really didn’t look like he scored that much. O, he had 25, my bad. He boringly scored 25 solid points. 10-11 from that boring free throw line that still counts by the way. 2 wide open 20 foot 3’s nailed for him. Not 24 feet so its not fun to watch right, but it still counts as 3.

Kennedy Hornets

The Hornets are pretty good. Coach Dorsey has these guys playing hard and they can make a little noise in 1A. The hardest thin will be getting a good position in their very hard division.

Khalil Strickland 5-11 2017 G 23 pts, 2 st: This is a very stocky, fast guard. He played very smart and ran the show well. He managed to score when he needed to and he got his team involved at the right times. If I had one word to describe him it would be solid.

Kentrell Starks 5-8 2017 G 15 pts: He also gets the MagnoliaHoops Player of the Game for that hustle catagory. He was all over the place causing havoc on the defensive end. Another strong, stocky guard. He could be described best as a work horse.

Senatobia Warriors

I know Coach Gray wasn’t pleased with his guys performance but I saw several positives on the court. This is one of the most patient teams I’ve seen this year. Ball movement was great. The MagnoliaHoops Play of the Game saw 5 players touch the ball, 5 passes with the ball only touching the floor on a bounce pass and the result was a layup. That play is almost like an antique play. Keep up the great work with these guys Coach and your team will get where you want to be.

Southaven Chargers

Southaven shot really well from the free throw line. they were 25-33 from the line while going 16-20 in the 4th quarter. Coach Wilson has some young talented guys to work with in the upcoming years.

TJ Martin 5-10 2018 G 22 pts, 12-12 ft, 2 st, 10-10 ft in 4th quarter: The MagnoliaHoops Player of the Game was 10-10 free throw in the 4th quarter. To be a little more accurate, he was 10-10 free throw in the last 3 or 4 minutes of the game. Clutch.

Germantown Mavericks

Zachary Jones 6-7 2018 F 8 pts, 4 reb, 2 blk, 3 st: The long forward was all over the place. He was on the floor, in the paint and around every loose ball it seemed like. He didn’t get his game going offensively but he was still in the picture on every played.

Olive Branch Conquistadors

This team is so young and has so much potential. Coach Rombaugh has really good depth to develop and work on also.

Kelvin Allen 6-1 2018 G 19 pts, 3 3’s, 6 reb in 2nd qtr, 2 blk in 2nd qtr: It feels like he just took the game over in the 2nd half. He was everywhere defensively. He hit big shots on the offensive end. Lefty with long range and quick moves might be starting to develop into a gem for OB.

Calvin Temple 6-0 2019 G 5 pts, 4 reb: I see why he has D1 Coaches attention now. This is a very smooth guard that didn’t get to play in the 2nd half due to referees…… Well I really can’t come up with the word to describe the referees decision but anything other than good would fit in that sentence. I can’t wait to see him in a full game.

DJ Jefferies 6-7 2019 G 26 pts, 13-17 ft, 10 reb, 2 blk, 12 pts in 4th qtr: Not really much I can say here that the rest of the country don’t know about him other than keep working young man and grab that #1 spot in the country. Don’t settle for 2 or 3.

Cameron Matthews 6-5 2020 G/F 2 reb, 1 ast, 1 st: Great looking young player that will be making his way up the state ranking soon. He filled that hustle category and showed really great potential down the road.

Provine Rams

Coach Gaines is 11 deep and has his guys playing really hard. Another big time stat is his team shot 24-29 free throws in the game including 16-18 in the 4th quarter. That is some very good free throw shooting. His guys are very athletic and really hustle and get after you defensively.

Anthony Johnson 6-3 2017 G 8 pts, 5 reb: Very good athletic guard that goes all out. He does a little bit of everything for his team.

Johnny Bingham 6-5 2017 F/C 16 pts, 8-8 ft, 3 st: His game around the paint is solid. He has really nice footwork. He can play with his back to the basket or face up and go at you. He has good hands around the rim.

Holly Springs Hawks

Coach Kilgore had his guys playing full speed. He has a good mixture of speed and size on the court.

Kendrick Fountain 6-5 2017 G 18 pts, 10 reb, 2 st, 4 blk, 3 ast, 8-10 fg: The lanky guard had no problem getting into the lane and either dishing or scoring. He was very efficient. What did he not do? The ICC signee had Coach Bozeman grinning from ear to ear.

Daquan Smith 6-1 2018 G 22 pts, 5 3’s, 7 reb, 3 ast, 3st: The high major player has finally gotten attention from Ole Miss and Kansas State. It’s time for others to get involved also. He was just like Fountain in the word I will use. Efficient.

Juwoyn Lyles 6-6 2017 C 20 pts, 9 reb, 8-12 fg, 4-4 ft: The big guy played hard down low and played his role perfectly. Grab boards and make the easy baskets that comes his way.

Horn Lake Eagles

Jitaurious Gordon 6-1 2017 G 14 pts, 3 st: The Northern Arizona signee is one of the best guards around. He has major speed and will do really good on the next level.
