Notes
Kossuth Aggies
Coach Roberts has his guys playing hard basketball. They jumped out to an early lead on Fayette-Ware but couldn’t hold it to an very good, athletic team.
Ashland Blue Devils
DeAnthony Tipler 5-11 2018 G 30 pts, 12-14 ft, 11 reb, 4 st: Face guarding and denying is what Tip saw all day. When he was inbounds or out of bounds, it didn’t matter. He was being guarded like that on the offensive and defensive end it seemed like. I think the Okolona players were guarding him when he was ever playing defense and denying him the ball then. He was guarded even when he went to the bench. The Okolona defenders went over and sat with him on the Ashland bench (justkidding). The only place he wasn’t guarded tight was the free throw line and they would have if the refs would have let them. They would have put 2 Ashland guys on the low block and 4 Okolona guys close to him on the free throw block. That still probably wouldn’t stop him. He nailed 12-14 ft and still mangaed to score 30 being guarded like that. He went and got the ball on his own getting 11 boards and 4 steals.
Richard Brooks 6-2 2017 F 19 pts, 13 reb, 4 ast, 3 st: A very solid stat line for Brooks. He was all over the place defensively.
Okolona Chieftains
They are going to be hard to handle for anybody in 2A. Very impressive outing by Coach Clifton and his guys while missing the best, or most talented player, on the team.
Ladarrius Spears 6-6 2018 C 20 pts, 8-12 ft, 15 reb, 3 blk: Let’s put this into perspective for Moo Moo. That is a very, very soild stat line. Ok, now let’s make that stat line look amazingly better. 19 minutes. 20 pts 15 reb in 19 minutes. How is that possible. He was unstoppable while on the court.
Jaylon Bailey 5-10 2018 G 19 pts, 12 reb, 4 ast, 3 st: Often an unsung hero, he did his thing. Another solid outing and stat line from behind the scenes. He is one of the hidden keys that makes Okolona tick like they do.
Jacorrius Stanfield 5-6 2019 G 20 pts, 7-13 fg, 6-8 ft, 4 reb, 4 ast: Another stat line like Moo Moo’s. Looks decent then you add foul trouble in the mix and the big stat pops out. 16 minutes. I can see how he got his in such a quick time. He was racing down shooting lay ups every time he touched the ball.
Forest Hill Patriots
This was the best game of the entire Lighthouse Classic. Mitchell Robinson and Ladarius Marshall put on a show like every superstar should. They pleased the crowd while still competing hard to win the game. Coach Curry has several weapons to use at his disposal.
Ladarius Marshall 6-7 2018 F 25 pts, 11-17 fg, 3-4 ft, 7 reb, 2 blk, 3 st: The big man just wanted this game today. He was all over the court diving for loose balls, chasing defenders down from behind and snagging boards. Marshall proved that he can play with the best in the country. He was also a highlight reel waiting to happen. He could have possibly had 5-7 more dunks if he wanted to.
Kenna Bryant 6-3 2018 G/F 13 pts, 2 3’s, 3-3 ft, 5 reb, 6 ast: He filled the role that Arthur Johnson played on Friday. He was everywhere and filled the stat sheet up.
Marc Evans 6-2 2019 G 5 pts, 3-4 ft, 4 reb: The sophomore stepped up big and nailed 2 free throws to help seal the victory for Forest Hill. Big time clutch shots.
Columbus Falcons
Robert Woodard 6-6 2018 G 20 pts, 9 reb, 11 blk, 2 st: Look at you go Robert, messed around and almost got a triple-double. He was swatting shots left and right. Great moves handling the ball. He just keeps getting better.
Velma Jackson Falcons
Nikolas Weatherspoon 6-2 2017 G 31 pts, 15-18 fg, 6 reb, 6 ast, 2 blk, 4 st: 31 points and only missed 3 shots. He showed up nad showed out. 6 boards and 6 dimes and played some defense too. When he plays like this, Velma Jackson does not get beat.
Corinth Warriors
Jon D Warren and Tada Stricklen scored all but 4 of the points for Corinth. That’s not really a good stat for the team but that’s some good games from them.
Jon D Warren 6-0 2018 G 27 pts, 6 3’s, 2 st: Jon D did a great job of puttting some points up. A very overlooked guard hat an distribute and score.
Axavius “Tada” Stricklen 6-0 2018 G 24 pts, 3 3’s, 9-9 ft, 4 reb, 3 ast, 7 st: Tada had a very good all around game. He used his speed to gather 7 steals. He was also 9-9 from the charity stripe.
Tada Stricklen Video Highlights
Out of State Guys
John Petty 6-7 2017 G Jemison 29 pts, 5 3’s, 5 reb : One of the best, most talented high school players I’ve seen since Andrew Wiggins. If he can get it all together, he can be a multiple All-Star.
Mitchell Robinson 7-0 2017 F/C 27 pts, 13-22 fg, 2 blk: He is a one and done. He was very fun to watch setting a Lighthouse Record for Dunks in a Game.
Wendell Carter Jr 6-10 2017 F/C Pace Academy 15 pts, 6-10 fg, 11 reb, 2 ast, 3 blk: Big guy can move and he will fit in perfectly at Duke. He should have a long career in the League.
