MAIS Overall Tournament Second Round Results and Report

A.E. Wood Coliseum From Mississippi College

Clinton, MS

Wednesday February 28, 2018

#23, #1 Madison-Ridgeland Academy (32-5) (AAAA-D1 #1 Madison) 61

#124, #7 Magnolia Heights (19-17) (AAAA-D2 #2 Senatobia) 41

A battle of bigs that I was interested in seeing really didn’t get much traction because the guards stole the show. The guards of MRA that is. Not only did they still the show but they stole the ball too, as in 17 team steals. Trey Fort (6-3 ’19 SG MRA 12 pts 4-7 fg 2 reb 2 ast 4 st) also stole Player of the Game honors with his ability to jump the passing lanes and his ability to play above the rim. Mario White (6-3 ’18 SF MRA 13 pts 5 reb 4 ast 7 st) was the other guard that helped MRA steal the game. As for the bigs, Zach Jones (6-6 ’18 F/C MRA 5 pts 6 reb 2 blk 2 st) and Tanner Woods (6-7 ’18 F/C Magnolia Heights 12 pts 5-9 fg 9 reb) both looked solid in limited touches.

#205, #10 Copiah Academy (15-14) (AAAA-D2 #1 Gallman) 38

Parklane applied the defensive pressure early and that proved to be the key in the victory. Leading Parklane and earning Player of the Game honors was Tyler Ramshur (6-4 ’18 SG Parklane 20 pts 4 3’s 7 reb 2 ast). Catching my eye with his athleticism was Gray Myrick (6-0 ’18 PG Parklane 5 pts 4 reb 4 ast). Two of his 5 points came in the form of a put back slam. That wasn’t just a freak happening either. He was playing above the rim on several other plays.

#42, #1 Brookhaven Academy (35-2) (AA #1 Brookhaven) 53

#63, #2 Jackson Academy (18-12) (AAAA-D1 #2 Jackson) 55

What a game and what a team that Brookhaven Academy has. Cade Brown (6-4 ’19 G/F Brookhaven Academy 14 pts 6-7 ft 9 reb 2 st) and Dawson Flowers (6-4 G/F Brookhaven Academy 14 pts 4-4 ft 8 reb 3 ast) are two great looking players but they couldn’t overcome the powerful performance of the Player of the Game, Michael Barber (6-8 ’18 G/F Jackson Academy 21 pts 6-9 fg 9-12 ft 11 reb 6 ast 4 blk 7 st). Barber played at a solid pace to help his team in the win. Henry Lee (5-10 ’20 SG 6 pts 2-2 ft) knocked in the game winning free-throws while Barber snagged the game sealing steal.

  1. Thanks for the accolades for our small school!! They left it all on the floor!! Hopefully we will be back next year…. It is difficult for us to compete with those bigs schools but we made our case a little more evident last night…Brookhaven Academy Cougars AA State Champs!! Baseball season has now begun….💙🏈🏀⚾️💙
