#52, #5 Ingomar (29-7) (New Albany) 53
#58, #6 Bay Springs (24-3) (Bay Springs) 60
Ingomar gave Bay Springs everything they wanted in more but fell just short of pullign off the upset. Kevin Grimes (6-3 ’19 G Bay Springs 22 pts 8-14 fg 6-7 ft 8 reb 2 blk) played a full, solid game to help lead the Bulldogs to the win. Austin Sigsworth (6-4 ’18 G/F Bay Springs 11 pts 5-9 fg 5 reb 4 ast) had a solid performance before fouling out. Making a huge jump from a 14 year old man child to looking like a full grown man was Zachariah “Zach” Shugars (6-4 ’21 F/C Ingomar 4 pts 4 reb). He didn’t have the biggest or best stat line but his leadership on the court as a freshman has grown. His defensive presence was also felt from stepping out and guarding a faster 6-3 G to holding his own in the paint with the bigs.

South Delta displayed a fast pace style and it looked good for them. Leading the way and earning Player of the Game honors was Izial Johnson (6-3 ’18 F South Delta 14 pts 13 reb 10 ast). Johnson is one of my favorite players to watch because he does everything on the court.

#45, #3 Madison St. Joseph Catholic (24-7) (Madison) 52
Young fellas, free-throws win ball games. Leflore County proved that to get the win over St. Joe. Joe McGee (6-2 ’18 F/C Leflore County 7 pts 3-4 ft 5 reb) hit two free-throws with :01 left on the clock to advance to the next round and also earn Player of the Game honors. Gabriel “Gabe” Watson (6-2 ’18 G St. Joseph/Southern Miss 30 pts 11-19 fg 8 reb 2 ast) finished his career with an impressive stat line.

#7, #4 Callaway (25-5) (Jackson) 61
#60, #12 Stone (24-6) (Wiggins) 40
Callaway took one of my predictions and just stomped it in the ground. James Williams (6-5 ’18 F Callaway 13 pts 5-6 ft 11 reb) had a strong game on his way to Player of the Game honors. Deonte’ Spencer (6-7 ’18 F Callaway 12 pts 3 3’s 9 reb 2 st) looked really good in the win. Daeshun Ruffin (5-9 ’21 PG Callaway 14 pts 6 reb 4 ast 2 st) got to experience his first of many Big House trips to come. Enrique Whaley (6-1 ’18 PG Stone 19 pts 5 reb 4 ast 7 st) left it all on the court in the loss.
