2022 Lighthouse Classic
Day 2 Recap
The stats are provided by Blake Long and his Northeast MS CC crew. They are the best in the business at keeping stats and can’t be thanked enough for the great job that they do.

From Corinth HS
Corinth, MS
(B) Pontotoc Warriors (4A Pontotoc, MS) 66
Florence Falcons (7A Florence, AL) 57
Notes: 4A take notice. This Pontotoc team is really good. They play tough, gritty basketball at a fast pace. Tyler Shephard (6-2 ’23 G Pontotoc 22 pts 8-13 fg 5 reb 3 ast 3 blk 4 st) earned the MVP for this game but they have so many pieces that can easily step in and be that guy. Emarion Hinton (6-2 ’24 F Pontotoc 12 pts 6-11 fg 11 reb 1 ast) provided a big double-double against the much larger opposition. Florence is a very good team and will be a contender in Alabama.

(B) Madison-Ridgeland Academy Patriots (MAIS 6A Madison, MS) 67
Bartlett Panthers (4A Bartlett, TN) 90
Notes: This was one of the big games that I had marked full of question marks. How good is MRA? Is Bartlett worth the hype? I was very pleased with the answers I came away with. This game and the final score say a lot. It looks bad on paper but MRA was able to go toe-to-toe with Bartlett until the 4th quarter. Bartlett outran the Patriots 23-4 in the final frame. Josh Hubbard (6-0 ’23 PG MRA 38 pts 13-25 fg 3 3’s 9-11 ft 7 reb 1 ast 1 blk) did Josh Hubbard things in this game. He left the Lighthouse as the highest scoring Mississippi player in the event with his 38. He passed the 35 of his future Ole Miss teammate Daeshun Ruffin. This was also the best game I’ve seen from Harrison Alexander (6-6 ’23 G/F MRA 20 pts 9-16 fg 2 3’s 1 reb 1 ast 1 blk). He had the daunting task of battling the size and depth of Bartlett. So what about the Bartlett hype? They are for real and should be mentioned in the conversation for national rankings. Coach Real has quality depth at every position and he can throw so many different quality lineups on the court. I was really, really impressed with the squad he has put together. Christian Alston (6-6 ’24 G Bartlett 29 pts 13-23 fg 3 3’s 7 reb 1 ast) earned MVP honors on this day but I can see about 10 or so different players that can easily garner the award on any given day.

(B) Tupelo Golden Wave (6A Tupelo, MS) 51
Huntsville Panthers (7A Huntsville, AL) 76
Notes: Tupelo finished off a killer week facing a loaded Huntsville team and it wasn’t a Thanksgiving to remember for the very talented Golden Wave team. Huntsville played like a well oiled machine on their way to victory. A great thing for Coach Schweers is that 3 of his super talented guys are just sophomores. Simon Walker (6-5 ’25 G Huntsville 23 pts 9-17 fg 4 3’s 3 reb 1 ast) shot his way to MVP honors for the Panthers.
