Ashland Lady Blue Devils 1-6 (1A Ashland, MS) 14
Notes: Keyauna Foote (6-0 ’24 G Blue Mountain 14 pts 1 three 4 reb 2 ast 7 st 1 blk) and A’Rare Foote (5-5 ’24 PG Blue Mountain 15 pts 6 reb 3 ast 7 st) are a great one-two punch for the Lady Cougars and they helped get their team the win. Another key stat in this game was that every Blue Mountain player scored in the game.

Notes: I’ve been hearing, “You need to see Blue Mountain.” I’ve had them on my radar to catch this season and I’m glad I did. They are a good bit better than what I was expecting. Are they contenders? Not really with Biggersville standing at the top of the title mountain but they are a legit top 10 1A team. People, don’t sleep on 1A basketball this year. The 1A tournament is going to be a tough one to navigate. I watched Jacob Hamblin (6-7 ’23 F Blue Mountain 21 pts 8 reb 6 ast 1 st) last year at a previous school and he was a good prospect. He’s no longer a prospect. He needs to be seen by next level coaches as soon as possible. He has the size, fundamentals and skill to be a good player on the next level. He has that lost art of the 15 foot jumper that he shoots at a layup percentage. I knew he had that game and I knew he can also step out and knock down the long ball. Of course he rebounds well with nice hands and fundamentals. What I didn’t know was that he has a nice passing ability. He worked the offense from the high post and wing finding the open man with ease. He might be the most slept on senior in the state right now. They also have another college ready point that I wasn’t aware of. Koda Hayles (6-3 ’23 G Blue Mountain 10 pts 2 3’s 3 reb 1 ast 1 st) followed dad from Mantachie to the Mountain. He has good size for a true point with a high motor. He sees the court well and can score on all levels. Javari Hall (6-4 ’24 F Blue Mountain 16 pts 13 reb 1 ast) banged in a double-double with his size and length. Coach Roberts also noted that he might be one of his better outside shooters but he didn’t take any outside shots during this game. Chance Venson (5-7 ’26 G Blue Mountain 8 pts 2 3’s 9 reb 2 ast 1 st 1 charge taken) came off the bench to provide a good night and will be one to watch develop over the next couple years. Quintavius Cotton (5-7 ’25 G Ashland 24 pts (17 in 3rd qtr) 4 3’s 2 reb 1 ast 2 st) had the hot hand for Ashland scoring 17 in the third quarter. Latrell Peterson (6-3 ’24 F Ashland 11 pts 14 reb 1 st 1 blk) notched a double-double for the Blue Devils in the loss.
